2011 5.0 Platinum Impressed Me!
I own a modified 2001 lightning and on the rare occasion when I get it out I am used to people getting next to me at stop lights and trying to see how fast it is. That being said last night the wife and I were out in the 100% stock 2011 Platinum 5.0 with 3.55 gears (4X4). We were on our way home and stopped at a light and a 2008 Nissan 350Z pulls up next to me. This guy starts revving his Z and I look over and kind of laugh because I thought those cars were relatively fast and why would a big heavy F150 run him? So the light turns green and I say what the hell and let that 5.0 eat. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised that the 5.0 held its own. The 350Z was at the back of my bumper during the whole run.
Thought I would share because I was thoroughly impressed!

+1 on the kill!!! If you took it up over 40 mph, he must have had the 5-speed instead of the 6-speed, spun, had additional passengers, had heavier-than-stock tires/wheels, and was a bad driver, or a combination of these. That, or something was seriously wrong with his car. Do you think it could have been an earlier model 350Z. The 2008's and up are generally faster than our 5.0 trucks.
On average, the newer ones run (bone stock) about 106-107 in the 1/4-mile, 0-60 in about 5.3, and they 60' on street tires at about 2.2-2.3 with a decent driver. I can see you out-launching and holding your own up to about 35 mph against any year model. But, over that and he's bound to kill ya' if he's truly stock with stock tires/wheels. I'll bet he had aftermarket wheels.

Don't doubt you a bit silverbullet ... maybe that WAS it ... just saying there was another factor. That Platinum is 2000 lbs heavier ... a little added weight in the 3,352 LB 350Z would make a major difference, whereas, it's not gonna' matter much in that truck of yours. These 5.0 motors ain't no joke. Ask me how I know. I know this may seem crazy to most, but, when I hit 2nd gear with the pedal to the floor, I feel the shocks extend waaaaay out and frontend lifts substantially (not off the ground, of course, but the effect feels almost like it).
Wasn't doubting your claim that you beat him. At what point (mph) did you finally let off the gas?
