Default 2011 3.5 ecoboost engine threw rod blew hole through the block

Has anyone else had an issue w/ their 3.5 ecoboost? My truck is a 2011 and it threw a rod through the block it's completely demolished, driving on a highway at the time

Sorry to hear that. Is it tuned? How many miles?

Its been posted here a few times. From the ones I can remember they were all tuned.

Most likely that those that are tuned are also more likely to be active here on the forum, so a bit of a reporting bias probably exists. Most of the folks out there that just drive their trucks and change the oil probably don't hop on the forum until something major goes wrong. Even then, not likely that a non-enthusiast is jumping on the forum for anything at all--even a rod through the block.

I'd bet you you polled the members it would be close to 50/50 tuned /not tuned. I just don't recall many guys talking about the issue that were not tuned to begin with.

And I agree. This place is a dumping grounds for problems. Your average Joe doesn't get on the Internet to say all is well.

It seems unlikely it would happen to a non-tuned truck. That being said, I have a 2011 Eco with only 51,000 miles on it and no major issues as of yet. Knock on wood of course. I drive my pretty tame though so i'm not flooring it or racing anyone. Curious to see if the OP has it tuned and how many miles are on it.

Not that unlikely if you take in a big gulp of moisture

I bought the truck used 1 year ago last week.
It has 130k on it
I recently found it was tuned, when I found the monitor under the rear seat,

So 130K on a tuned truck. Doesn't surprise me.

I had the same thing happen to me in Jan. this year. Someone else with a 2012 also. I wonder if it could be a flaw in engine assembly from the factory since mine isn't an isolated incident. How to find out if these engines could have been assembled near the same times? I took delivery of mine on 9/16/11. 2011 F-150 Lariat, final assembly point - Dearborn

Default 2012 Ecoboost threw rod

Well, I'll add my truck to the list. Bone stock 2012 XLT Crew Ecoboost. Just over 85,000 miles. Driving home from work last Thursday Night. Took a turn and started to accelerate. Engine blew. Ford and the dealer can not explain to me why this happened. Ford is willing to participate in repair however, still expects almost $5,000 from me. Based on the research I've done since this happened, I believe there is an issue with this engine. Any Ford employees on here that would be willing to have a private conversation with me about this.
