Default 170° Thermostat Question

I installed the 170 stat with the MPT tune and datalogs show consistent 190 temps. Is this what you guys are also seeing?

I have 170's in my Lightning and Stang and both stay in the 170-172 range.

I have mine with a custom 5 star tune and show 180's with some excursions into the 210's during heavy load climbing hills and such.

Are you sure they tuned for it? Are your fans running more than usual? Coolant level is appropriate and you used the correct (orange) coolant?

Does the EB ECU sample water or cylinder head temps?

I have a 2015 Mustang 5.0. I put a 170deg T-stat in. The water temps went to 170 (I tested them with a thermocouple), but the CHT (cylinder head temps) rarely get below 190.

The truck is the same way, it reads cylinder head temperatures. This is why the datalogs read ~20* higher.

Cruising on a level road for me is 180's but only takes higher speeds or a small hill to hit 190+. Small load is 200-205

I don't use coolant. Never have. Just deionized water. It's a lot more efficient than coolant although I haven't completely drained it out of this truck yet.

Did not realize that. That makes sense then. So its doing what it is supposed to be doing. And the fans are coming on as soon as it hits 190, so everything is good.

Thanks everyone!

Correct. (although I still use ~25-30% for corrosion protection and because I go places below freezing during the winter. Factory is like 55-60%)
