There were two identical 2013 Platinum's side by side on the dealer lot, one eco, one 5.0. I've had terrible luck with vehicles in the past and I opted for the 5.0 after test driving both. I thought any repair on this engine in $1000+ range over 8 years will destroy any fuel savings. This isn't a told-you-so story, but being how similar the engines are in power (relatively) and the fuel economy of the Ecoboost just isn't enough to justify the extra $. Hopefully with the next generation they can get the bugs out and the fuel economy up.

On another note, in my corner of Ontario, Canada, I don't see that many Ecoboosts. Maybe 1 out of every 10 trucks 2011+ I see are Ecos. Maybe Canadians are more conservative about newer engine technologies.

I watched all those Ecoboost torture tests on youtube and was convinced I was going to get that engine. But then I started to notice what a production the whole thing was. Mike Rowe and all that, big money production. What if they replaced a couple turbos? Other parts? Who would know? Sure the engine itself was original, but that isn't much comfort when you've replaced thousands in other parts.

*crosses fingers my 5.0 will be ok*

After I got the recall done for my 2012 CAC and the reflash, my EB ran poorly for a couple of hundred miles.....then it came back alive again with seemingly as much power as it used to have. It even idles a LOT smoother than it did before....have you guys with the recall put some miles on it to see if your truck recovers?

Can any Ford engineer confirm here that the recall is specifically designed to detune the EB? I've not seen any real confirmation of that, but it would be nice to see/hear it from an expert who knows the ins and outs of the reflash programming!!

I have over 2000 miles on mine since the new CAC. Ran great for four days with tons of power. Then began misfiring again and had lost a lot of power. That was a month ago. Two weeks ago put in new plugs regapped to .032. Again, ran great for four days then back to no power.

I've put 3000 miles on since the new CAC. Same performance, way below what I used to have.

I noticed the same thing but didn't mention it earlier for fear of being accused as Eco bashing.

I did see 2 yesterday. I've been paying attention and just about everyone I see is not an Ecoboost. Not sure how to tell if they are 3.7L or 6.2L, but they have all their badges but the side door Ecoboost badge.

I also can't believe how many 2009 - 2010 are out there. There seems to be more of these than 2011 - 2012. You can tell which Max tow years by the E85 emblem on the tailgate.

I've worked at 2 places in the last 12 years and each place had only 1 ecoboost truck in the parking lot, while having several 5.0L trucks.

Every truck/car nut I talk to that doesn't even know the history of the Ecoboost makes comments to stick with the V8s and stay away from the Turbo. Had nothing to do with being a V6 and everything to do with just being a Turbo.

Guess it's because of all the previous production turbo gas engine problems in the past and their extreme heat. Not many seem to want to put trust in a Turbo.

So actual Ecoboost trucks I've seen on the road and at work in the parking lots is a total of 4. I honestly can't count the number of 4WD Crew Cabs I've seen 'without' the Ecoboost door badge. All are none Max Tow package trucks. All the Max Tow package trucks I see also have no Ecoboost badge so they're either 2009/2010 trucks or 6.2L trucks.

Really funny considering my dealers stock are almost all Ecoboost trucks with a few 5.0L trucks.

You usually don't fear bashing the Eco.

Today I had the CAC replaced and shield installed, and re-programmed PCM per TSB OP 130303C. Afterward I drove around in town for approx. 40 miles, truck ran fine so I took it on a two lane highway, speed limit 60-65 mph. I drove about 17 miles out of town and when I turned around to head back to town I decided to see how well it would accelerate. When it down shifted it broke the tires loose and took off like a scalded dog. Not very scientific but I don't think that my truck has lost any performance with the CAC replacement.

Mine is getting done tomorrow and I know my plugs are set correctly so I hope after a short break in to the new system we are good to go!

Less than 2500miles and two months of ownership its was in the shop for almost 10days! that is much too much for a new vehicle.

Cheers,
GREG
