Default Tuning reliability

I've read every post I could search for regarding tunes for a 5.0, and I understand what it does and doesn't do. What I'm trying to find out is: how does tuning affect long term reliability and wear and tear of the engine and transmission?

I have a new 2014 FX4 with 5.0, 6,000 miles, and just put 34" 275/65R20 terra grapplers on new wheels. I'm debating getting the SCT X4 with the 5star 87 and 91 performance/tow and also economy tunes. My main goals are to get some crisper shifting and also to fix the speedometer to match the tire size.

My main hesitation is the long term reliability unknown, especially since it's a new truck. I plan on keeping this truck for a long time, until one day it dies, so long term reliability and long term wear and tear is a huge concern of mine. Am I stupid for considering a tuner with a new vehicle or am I just being paranoid? Thanks for any help!

I too am curious to this as i have not even taken eelivery of my new truck, i pick it up Jan 2 when i get back from work... everybody is quick to tell there tuner makes there truck move mountains, but nobody tells about there bad experiences. I kniw of 1 who took out s tranny, but granted he tinkered a little too much with it. So like 6fthook id like to know a little more about this

Have had a tune on my last four truck.

2003 5.4L F-150 FX4 - Installed at 5K miles! Tuned with SuperChips for 20K then truck was totaled.

2003 5.4L F-150 FX4 Installed at 25K miles! Tuned with SuperChips for 45K miles
Tuned with SCT for 30K
Sold truck about 5-6yrs ago, it's still on the road with the SCT tune.

2007 2.3L Ranger - Installed at 65K miles!
Tuned with SCT for 70K!
Sold the truck about 2yrs ago, it's still on the road with the SCT tune.

2013 5.0L F-150 FX2 - Installed at 3K miles!
Tuned with SCT for 25K!
Current Truck and still SCT tuned.

If you have it tuned by someone who knows WTF they are doing and then you datalog to verify everything is good then you won't add any time related issues!

Like Z7 said, it's not so much the tuner as far as the reliabilty is concerned as much as it is the tuner who programs your truck. Lots of people have the 5.0 tuned without any ill problems. I'm waiting a little bit for my warranty to expire before I tune, but I'm going to do more than tune it. I still plan on keeping this truck for a long time though. I wouldn't have any problems tuning mine.

Just so you know, it's not so much about the warranty with me as the wife said nothing until then. Lol. I hear a procharger in my future. Haha.

Default Tuner

I have had my tuner on my 2010 5.4L since new. I have JBA cat back exhaust, JBA short tube headers. Airaid cold air intake, Airaid throttle body spacer. Accel coils. And a SCT X4. I have 2 custom tunes from 5 star. No problems, the truck runs great and is fun to drive. My wife tries to steal it all the time because its just fun to drive. I am glad you like how it turned out. I have not heard about any issues from using an SCT tuner with a 5 star tune ever.

Got a 93 race tune but don't really know if I need to even try it because the 87 performance tune has opened her up tremendously, only thing that has me thinking is the very firm shift it has but it has gotten better the more I drive it and I still get 20 plus to the gal as long as I stay out of it lol, my wife says I sound like a young kid coming down the road but I'm enjoying it.
