yea its the main tuning for the j-bodies, awesome program

Ok NGM, I have an off topic question for you, since you seem to be the foremost leader of the SCT clan. My buddy has a SCT tuner for his 03 cobra and lately it has been idleing horrible and backfiring on take off. He took the car to AMP Motorsports here in Phoenix and they told him all the SCT tuner does is dump fuel, all the time, and very excessively. They told him to take it out, have the computer flashed to stock and let them dyno and build him a program for his car, totalling 1000 bucks. whats your thoughts on this?

bigdaddy 09-14-2008 08:57 PM

what would be the best tuner / chip for an 05 f150 supercrew with the 5.4? i havea K&N cold air kit and a flowmaster muffler, and run 285/65/18 BFG's

he got ripped off. There is no difference between flashing a file with an xcal and having someone flash it with SCT software on the dyno. The files are identical.

Case in point, the guy who founded SCT, lets cal him JW, would do independent tuning at team ford in altanta. He would tune with his laptop, save the file and load it to an xcal if you had one.

I have read about AMP on the corral in the past and they seem to do a good job of taking peoples money.

k&N intake noise

Hi Folks, I just installed a K&N Series 77 on my 2002 F150 4.6 v8. I have a weird noise that sounds kinda like a woop-woop-woop. It does it sometimes just idling and some times accelerating or decellerating. When it is idling and makes the noise, I notice the engine misses a little. I haven't contacted K&N yet. Thought I would try here first.

If you have any ideas email me at rocgri@gmail.com. THX

Read this thread dude.. SCT is smokin the Edge ;).
My SCT Livewire is in the mail.
Almost everyone else is doggin the Edge....:whistling2:

racinjason68 10-06-2008 08:14 PM

Livewire = more tuneabilitiy..... nuff said.

edge is ok. Livewire or Xcal3 for custom tunes. Anything worth doing, is worth doing right.

racinjason68 10-06-2008 09:45 PM

I got mine from VMP. Is was a little bit cheaper from there and most of the guys here prefer em.
There is a thread here about CAI's too. Check em out.
We all have our own and different preferences. Dry filter vs. Oil Filter. Enclosed unit vs Open unit. etc. Gotta look around and consider price. Hope that helps

ghostrider24 10-08-2008 09:00 PM

racinjason68 10-08-2008 09:16 PM

There are several brands of course, I am not pushing those ones they were ust the one's that popped up.;)

ghostrider24 10-12-2008 10:47 AM

open or closed

ok so which one does what. wont an open one draw in hot air from engine compartment? and a closed one be restricted??

SinCityFX4 10-12-2008 05:45 PM

The closed ones still have a port that opens in the compartment, I think one of them goes into the OEM port to the wheel well, but I do not remember what one.

The most common custom tuning guys are Justin from VMP, Mike from Troyer Performance, and Bill from PHP. These guys can write semi-custom tunes for your truck and E-mail them to you.

VMP is down in Florida, PHP is in Georgia I think, and Troyer is in Virginia although I don't know if they do Dyno tuning.

If you want true custom tunes you need to take it to the performance shop and have it dyno tuned. Not just these ones, there are many tuners out there.

Perhaps one of the more experienced members could shine more light on this for you....

dansjuice 10-18-2008 03:51 PM

I have a 06 XLT 4.6 and was looking to tune or chip it. Whats the best route? Ordering pre dyno chips for my make or going to a shop and having a dyno and custom tune for my truck? Is this legit?
http://www.f150store.com/Shop/ViewPr...eIndexID=51145 A Jet preformance chip with two settings for $167.

Thanks Everybody!

SCT Tuner or Edge Evolution

Hey guys I have a 2004 F150 with the 4.6l in it. And I am looking for a tuner that will give me better gas milage because right now I'm getting about 12 mpg with my 35s on. What would you guys suggest? Thanks

If you're just doing it for the gas mileage, I would suggest you get smaller tires and slow your speed down. If you want better power then read SinCityFX4's post above, he hit the best three options out there. ;)

I see what you are saying...I'm also looking for a power increase as well. I would take my tires off but I just spent a crap load of money on them so I'm at least going to keep them until let wear out. If there is a tuner that can get me even 3 miles extra to the gallon that would be pretty nice. Thanks for your help.

Here are their websites. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

Hey man thanks for your help. I'm leaning towards the Edge Evolution. Is it pretty easy to program and setup? Again thanks for all your help.

If you go with the Edge buy the Gyphon from Bill at PHP. It's an Edge that has been custom tuned for your truck. You will get a better set of tunes that way.

I believe Mike Troyer has been tunning these trucks longer than anybody. You don't necessarily need to go see him, once you get your tunes from him you can DATA log your air/fuel ratio and send it to him, from there he can make any nessery adjustments to your tunes if needed. If you want the added gauges look at getting the Livewire. If your still sold on Edge, talk with Bill at www.powerhungryperformance.com He sells Gyphon which is basically an Edge with custom tunes.

Rainman 11-04-2008 01:10 AM

Rubicon,
i would not buy the edge.i bought one and 2 days later i blew up my transmission. ive heard a few other people say they had some problems. theres tons of plug and play programmers out there that will give you all the "gauges" like the edge. get somethin else

dplummer87 11-04-2008 10:18 AM

Every single tuner has their problems! Check the tuners actual forums if you dont believe me...Diablo, Superchips (Flashpaq) Edge...Everything!

My cousin has the edge for his 4.6 STX and loved hit. Never had a problem. He put it on his new FX2 5.4. and still loved it (Until the motor started missing) so he took it out for a while. He has not put it back in but he plans too. The nice thing about edge is the read out monitor and changing settings on the fly.

If you go with the edge, I high recommend having your dash mat or getting a dash mat and taking it to an upholstery place and having them customize it to fit over and around the read out and back down the dash. My cousin did it and it looks amazing! Ill try to get a pic when I go back to town...Im away at school right now.

dplummer87 11-04-2008 02:37 PM

Every performance guy I talk to say...Intake, Exhaust, then tuner...This way the truck can breath and there are no restrictions and you get the full benefit of the tuner.

The magnaflows had it sounding great but paired with the CAI!! Holy smokes! Overdrive sounds AWESOME!

On the test run I took it out on the freeway. She was at 70 with no effort at all. I didn't even realize it because I was concentrating on the sound. Once I slowed her down to 60-65 mph all I had to do was occasionally give her a little gas and she was pretty much coasting at 60. Maybe that's why they save gas!

Loving it! I guess a tuner is next. Do tuners void your warranty?

Jaffe, tuners wont void your warranty but make sure the tuner you buy saves your stock setting and allows you to return your truck to stock whenever you please for a few reasons...

1) The dealer may try to void your warranty if they find you installed it.
2) The dealer will charge you to "re-flash" your computer if there is a tune on it and you take it in.
