Bill left Edge to start his own business. He figured why work for someone else your whole life when you can do what you love for yourself. Before he left Edge products, he worked out a licensing deal to have the exclusive rights to custom tune Edge's devices (and who better because he wrote most of their tunes). Bill and Edge work together to this day as he helped with the CS and CTS. This is the reason CS and CTS devices don't have to be sent in to get their hardware changed to accept custom tunes, they can simply be ordered from PHP and downloaded on Fusion. Monochrome Edge's have to be sent in to be "Gryphonized"/buy a Gryphon from them and then they can download custom tunes off of Bill's server which is known as Pegasus. I've worked with and followed Bill for a long time now. Busy as all get out with PHP now, but he's one of the most down to Earth guys you'll meet and knows everything you ever wanted to know about gas or diesel tuning and then some.

very enlightening, glad the guy followed his dream! if you already own an edge and send it in to him will it have to be rebadged to gryphon or can it stay an edge?

^ The little Edge decal on the side of the display stays. The splash screen can be made to say a bunch of different things. PHP has a bunch of splash screens on their forum.

After personally using both canned and custom, I'd really push you to just go custom. Wouldn't cost that much more and the tunes are a lot better. Why use a generic tune written for 1000s of vehicles when you can have a tune tailored for your specific vehicle, location, and driving habits?

very, very true. would the best route be to buy a gryphon or buy an edge and send it in?

The screen that flashes up for a few seconds on the programmer when you first start the vehicle. Edge's will flash the Edge logo, PHP's flash is the mythical creature the Gryphon, but you can get anything from the Ford logo to a picture of a duck (this is just for the monochrome versions).
Depends which model you are looking at and what kind of deal you can get. If you can find a used Evolution cheap enough to cover the conversion and shipping, you can do that. You can buy new from them for the monochrome Gryphon and save the conversion stuff. Or you can buy a CS or CTS from where ever is cheapest and get custom tunes easily from PHP.

That's for you to decide, but they are over $500 new so it's a good deal as long as it's unlocked. Paypal is usually what is used but there's many ways. Don't want to get too off topic for this thread, but you make the final decision, my input is with custom tunes you won't be disappointed with it.
