Dont be scared of firm shifts. It is actually better for the tranny to be a bit "firm" on shifts. Really laggy/smooth shifts like the stock tune can actually generate more heat in the tranny (and we all know heat is the enemy). However we also don't want violently rough shifts either. Just a solid, firm shift.

Hello,
I'm new at all of this & am trying to squeeze as much performance/mpg out of my 1999 F150 4.6L XLT. Had a recent major tune up and a KCN CAI installed & have considered a new exhaust/muffler,(just have dual Flowmaster that came with truck when I bought it), & performance tune. Local place in town will do the tune for $300 or so. Have spoken to several guys in the local auto parts stores & some say I would have to keep the truck a long time to see me ROI. Seems from reading the forums that most of you see good results, but shelling out $300+ is a chunk of change for me. Ideas/suggestions appreciated. Thanks. Dan

If anyone maybe interested, I have a Diablo Sport Trinity T1000 tuner that I had installed in my dodge charger, which I no longer own. I currently have a 2011 f-150 and it is not supported yet. They support up to the 2010 models. They retail for between 550 and 600 dollars. I am asking 400 for it.
I Have a SCT SF3 programmer and i put an air intake and dual exhaust on my truck so i want to get a custom tune for it. My question is when i pay someone to make a custom tune are they adjusting the same settings i have access to on the programmer that i could adjust myself or can they do more than that?

SCT was the baby of a local guy here in Mobile. His name is Chris Johnson and he started SCT. These guys in the software tune game collaborate with each other to come up with the best why, the only way to get a product to market as fast as they do.The factory has unlimited resources and people to invent the products .The after market companies have to use their heads to figure a way to make it work in a manner that was not in the invention process.Sct is a Ford base product and Hptuners was GM.Now Hpt is working on the Ecoboost.
I started out with the Diablosport predators four years ago and ended up with there CMR's (custom software)for both Ford and GM.I have spent a ton of cash and time all because this tuning stuff is so new of an industry.
I bought my first dyno three years ago and am just now know enough to take the leap in the tuning game.
hope this helps
Mike
