Had the Jet Performance for 6 months and hated it. Recently bought SCT with 3 customs tunes and I have much better power, tranny control, and throttle response.

hey guys i have an 07 fx4 with just a flowmaster muffler, ima be getting a K&N FIPK with a tuner at the same time and a small shop around here said they had problems with the edge in cold weather and seemed to remove quite a few and reccomended a hypertech... looked around and i couldnt find anything on the problem they describe... has anyone had any such problem or is it a myth? im leaning toward the edge evo or gryphon with custom tunes from PHP but havent made my mind up yet any insight or criticism is welcomed

So I changed my mind again. Back to edge Evo. Well a guy I work with has or should I say had the SCT X3 on his f150. 4 days ago kaboom, there goes rear main seal. His first and last time running the extreme setting. Now I am not here to bash point fingers or put down the product, and I am waiting on the rest of the story but a mere couple hours prior to purchase I received his text of distress. And some smoke signals needing rescue. If I receive more info I will gladly pass it on.

Well what do you expect when you put a programmer on your truck and set it high and start tearing up the streets with it? Its an F150 not a Shelby GT500. IMO if you get a programmer use it for towing or gas mileage. I wouldnt buy it and tear up the streets. I am coming from owning Stangs the last 16 years. I am on my 1st truck.

A programmer won't damage the rear main seal!!

Running the **** out of your truck can put a strain on your rear main seal?
Lack of maint. can cause wear and early rear main seal failure.
Sludge, plugged oil passage, Over heating can cause early seal failure.
overfilling your oil can cause seal leakage even on a new truck.
PCV pluggage?

So there must be more to this story. there could be something that even your friend is not aware of.

Programmers don't cause the rear main seal to fail.

If you think that the SCT caused the rear main seal to fail. then I wouldn't put any kind of programmer on your truck.

Not trying to be rude..... but really! Just my two bits

Like I said and even when I spoke with the company myself that is something they brought up. Pre existing issues the programmer just aggravated what was already there. Thing is maybe that could have been caught by running diagnostics or better upkeep. Won't know till he gets a call from maintenance shop.

The primary reason I went with edge is I am new to mods it is very easy to use and does a hell of a lot plus constant monitoring. As of right now I am more than happy with the edge Evo. Monday induction upgrade then who knows

I've used the Edge and SCT Xcal2.

Edge was far better than stock, but the tranny never felt right. Dyno showed Edge ran the truck lean, even more lean than the factory tune.

I now used Troyer tunes on the Xcal2 and there is nothing better. Put down more power than the Edge, much better driveability, better throttle response, shifts are perfect, etc.
