SCT doesn't offer anything for the 09-10's yet and I seriously doubt you will see 10% MPG increase. If you drove conservatively, you might see 1 MPG after the tuner.

If you're going to spend $400, wait until you can get a 7-digit match on your truck's hex code and get custom tunes from VMP, PHP, or Troyer. This will give you the best chance to increase your MPG.

Since this truck has been out not for 2 years why have they not come out with a tuner for it yet then? and what are the disadvantages to the hypertech if these other tuners are alot better? will i get the appropriate combo for my engine so I do not blow it up after putting my k&n on, thats all i am concerned about really.

My understanding is that Ford has not released all the PCM calibration codes to the A/M suppliers (each MY has numerous calibrations). Hence Edge, PHP, and SCT (the most popular and prevelant tuning companies) have not been able to write the 'canned' tunes to support the engines.

IMHO, you are wasting your money on the intake. The supposed gains (Estimated Horsepower Gain: 11.21 HP @ 4600 RPM) are based on a 2007 Ford Expedition which has a completely different stock intake. Not to mention your inlet air temperature will likely INCREASE with this cold air intake.

Read the sticky: https://www.f150forum.com/f7/custom-tune-vs-canned-tune-17686/

Here's my advice: Cancel the A/M intake order and wait patiently for SCT (tuned by either PHP or VMP) or PHP (SCT, Edge/Gryphon) to release their products for the 09-10s. When they do, purchase a tuner and custom tunes with a 7-digit match to your truck's hex code.

I see the listing for 1998 - 2009 and in another place I see that they are showing for 2010 Me I would call and talk to them. I am happpy with mine.

but I am no expert. I bought one for my Ford edge and one for my truck both 2008. So if there isn't anything for the 2010 yet you would think that A phone call will end up with that info? You always talk as though custom tunes from VMP, PHP, or Troyer. are better than the custom tunes from some one else. Mine came with custom tunes and took three weeks to get. I was happy with the improvement in my truck. as far as the 2010 not being avail I would think these guys at evolution would say tell when he calls if they are ready or avail yet.

The actual programmer/flasher/hardware isn't really that important (as long as it has all the features you want). It all comes down to the tuner's experience with the specific engine and drivetrain.

I only know of one other custom tuner that I would even consider for e-mail type tunes (5Star Tuning). But as I do not have any experience with their customer support, I'm hesitant to recommend them.

PHP, VMP, and Troyer have plenty of satisfied customers (as wel as an occasional dissatisfied one). Lately Troyer's custom tune time has increased to 14-16 weeks and some have been waiting for more than a year.

Canned tunes may even work, but for the extra $60-100, why not get custom tunes?

You might be right about what's available for the 09-10s, but from the LiveWire manual:

These guy's are my only experience all because of the fact his wife had a ford edge like mine. He told me that they at evolution had spent some time coming up with the custom tume for his wifes Ford EDGE. I also liked the time he spent with me on the phone.
So when I talked to them about my F150 theu also spent time with me and later when I added the gears and bigger tires I was able to talk to the support at Evolution. they also had to call me back when A question I asked took some research.

You have more experience than I at the diferent tuners. and you have more experience with the different programers.

I had a hypertech on my 2003. f150 w/4.6 I had a hypertech chip on my 91 GMC dully, And now I have used two SCT x3 on my two different 2008 Fords.
I can only speak from my experience which is limited. but I can say that my two fords have substantial improvements. with the SCT and much more than I recieved from the Hypertech on my 2003 F150.
but so much was different and hard to compare.
Engines on the F150 were diff 4.6 vers 5.4
The Hypertech had no custom tunes, the SCT does!

I am only trying to help.
I am only one person ideas compaired to many on this forum
When I bought my Programmer I had talked to three different off road places, read this forum and another, reviewed pros and cons throught the internet as best I could. and talked to shops. then I made a choice.
And some times my choices come back to haunt me. as far as my SCT X3 I have been happy

As I said above, I would be less concerned about the hardware and more concerned about the experience of the tuner.

I have yet to read anyone say, "I really like the Hypertech better than ..."

Likewise, I have never heard anyone say, "I wish I had kept my canned tunes."

SCT is a great choice. So is Gryphon. PHP is a good choice, so is VMP and Troyer.

Slowly creeping into the picture is Diablo. Right now the only thing I see holding them back is experienced F150 tuners. They do appear to have good tech support, although they are limited to 5-digit hex matches. Maybe they will improve in the next 2-3 years.

Sounds like we're saying the same thing, but in a different way, doesn't it?

Wow My typing was worse than ever. I had to be 70 miles north in 1 hour.
Just got back
Shotgun I guess we are saying the same thing. Custom tunes are the way to go. I like the sct x3 better than the older hypertech I had on my 2003 F150 but have no firsthand experience with the newer hypertech.
