I just purchased the Bakflip from AutoAnything for a great price and it definitely has its pros and cons. Installation wasn't too bad but the instructions are very vague. It stated to use shims but I didn't receive anything other than a (3) pieces of foam stripping. If these are what I was supposed to use then I should have received (4). I just washed the truck yesterday with a regular garden hose and it leaked pretty badly.

Incomplete part-kit and major leaking. I hope I fair better.

Yes, hopefully your cover works out. They supplied a rubber weather stripping for customers who don't have a bedliner. Like I said before the instructions are very vague and it does not specify as to whether or not the stripping goes on the top of the cab bed rail or on the inside edge. I placed mine on the top. Good luck.

Which BakFlip cover are you comparing with the other covers? I would highly recommend checking out the BakFlip FiberMax Tonneau Cover. It has the same fiberglass reinforced panels and features as the F1(only slightly thinner and lighter), but at a much friendlier price. This is one of the most important features to look for, as it will not dent nearly as easily as the aluminum panels like those on the G2.

Bak Industries also has the best customer service in the industry. If you have a problem, they will fix it. We also have a great relationship with Bak, and we will go to bat for you if any problems arise.

May I ask what other covers you are looking at? Also, how do you use your bed most often, this is the most important factor to make sure you are getting the right cover..

You can also check out all the "Hard Folding" covers we offer, by following the link below. We also offer special discounts to the forum members here, if you find a cover you like, feel free to shoot me a pm if you have any questions!

I am assuming you have a 2004-2008 truck. This truck does not need rail shims and is probably the reason for the leakage. The three rubber foam pieces are for rear window protection when completely folded.

There are several videos on youtube how to properly install the Bak Flip. Installed mine last weekend zero leaks.

My only gripe is that a coat hanger slid under the rear seal can open the Bak Flip. I'm betting thieves are not that savvy and will just use a crow bar if they want my stuff, which pretty much every cover on the market can be opened with a crow bar.

I'm happy with my Bak Flip and suits my needs. I may attach a piece of metal in-front of the wires near the tailgate to make the cover more secure.

We have a video of the Bak HD being installed on a 2008-2013 F-150 if that helps you at all, the Bakflips all install pretty much the same way, so it will atleast give you an idea. Hope this helps!

No, I have a 2012. The pamphlet stated that I need rail shims for the 2012 but there were none supplied. I had one extra **** and two extra black washers. Now I know what the three foam rubber pieces are for, thank you.
I will check on Youtube to see if there are any steps that I did not take but I should not have to do so. The provided instructions should be more than enough to make installation a breeze.

I agree. Yeah I read that Bak installation instructions were vague and never even opened them until I was confused on how the thumb screws came together, which in the end I guessed...rubber washers I think are used to help seal the exterior of the thumb screws by the rear window. [Don't' quote me on that.]

Good luck!

I appreciate you posting that. Now I know what the extra washers are used for as well. I just don't understand why the provided instructions are so vague.

I nearly had a brain malfunction researching all the bakflip options. I ended up ordering the VP because I felt it had less chance to leak due to the design. I haven't received it yet but got a great deal from AutoAnything. I'm hoping it comes today and I can install over the weekend.
