Roof rack question
New F150 owner question - I want to add a roof rack to my truck to carry kayaks. But I have a roll down cover over the back bed that would need to be completely removed so the racks could be mounted to the truck, for instance the Thule rack (photo enclosed). My question is what are the four holes on the top of the sidewalls of the bed for (photo enclosed) that currently have plastic inserts in them...and is there a roof rack that would use these holes for mounting so I do not need to remove the roll down cover over the back? Thanks for your input.

They are called stake pockets. Back in the day people would pop off the cover and stick a 2x3 inside to carry more in the bed. I used the bullrings tie downs on my truck to have more points to secure items.
Here are two pics for example .

Ya, there aren't a whole lot of options for us with covers. I have the bakflip x2 and these are the two that I have found unless you get something custom

JerseyRV, I’ve been looking for a similar rack myself. Is the second pic your truck? If so, an Adarac rack may work.
They have a rail that bolts to the top of the bed rail using the stake pockets. I called Agri cover (maker of Adarac) and was told the rail lines up with the inner edge of the stake pocket. My Bakflip lines up pretty much in the same place.
The Adarac isn’t as fancy as the Thule, but at half the price (and it looks like it will work with my cover) I think I’m going to give it a try.
