Default Product Review: Barricade Tailgate Assist (DO NOT BUY!)

Wanted to do a quick review of the Barricade Tailgate Assist.

https://www.americantrucks.com/barri...t-1516all.html

Bought it over Christmas from American Trucks and installed. Installation took 5 minutes and it worked flawlessly for about 5 tailgate cycles. Then the shock froze. Called American Trucks and they sent me a new shock. This one seemed a little slow, and on the 3rd tailgate cycle it broke the nipple off of the bracket. I called American Trucks and they sent me a refund immediately. From a customer service standpoint American Trucks was absolutely the best. However, the Barricade Tailgate assist product was useless. Both times I called American Trucks for a new part/refund they informed me this part did not need to be sent back. This leads me to believe the part is very cheap to make, and therefor uses cheap parts.

I've since spent the extra $20 on the OEM tailgate assist and will be installing next weekend.

i'm not saying it's not cheaply made with cheap parts, but i'm not sure i would agree that because they didn't require it to be sent back when you needed a new part or wanted a refund, that is in and of itself proof of that... it's $29 and it's broke... unless the manufacturer of the part would give the retailer credit for it requiring the broken part, it's just lost money to request it be sent back unless they were going to ask you to foot the bill.

good review though... i was looking into these and certainly won't buy that one!

I have the Deezee branded one and I like it. It looks just like the pictures of this one. I've had them on two different trucks and never had any problems from it.

From the reviews I watched the factory one had a drop the last few inches that was noticeable, Doesn't seem to bother some but that would have drove me crazy. Plus it cost more and was harder to install.

I tried 2 sets and the culprit seemed like the shock froze. Maybe a bad batch? Anyways just posting my experience.

I put the oe one on last week. It took 15 minutes and works great. And... theres no drop the last few inchs, so for around $40, I'm highly satisfied and you can't see it

I paid $46, can't wait to get it put it.

I was scuba diving over the weekend and headed back to my truck carrying a bunch of gear and needed to drop my tailgate with hand. Really wish I had this installed already!

Now the only bad thing is trying to hurry and put something in the bed of you truck and having to wait for the tailgate to come down. At least if you have a BAKflip.

Buy them individually. There’s a few post, just search tailgate assist and you’ll get the2 part numbers. It saves about $25

I think I can live with the 2-3 seconds extra. I am a frequent scuba diver, and routinely walk back to my truck with all my gear and half a hand free. I typically have to put down all my gear, lower the tailgate, then pick back up my gear. Will be much nicer just having to pull the handle and wait.

Check out this thread, you can find the parts to order individually.
