Default Plasti dip thoughts?

I have a 2018 Magnetic colored F-150 and I am contemplating plasti dipping the stock rims

I am worried about the Plasti dip not holding up. I have seen the plasti did clear coating and wonder if that will help.

Any reviews / pictures of people trucks with plasti dipped rims?

plastidip will last if you apply it correctly, but it is not a permanent solution. i have found the best results after doing 4 light coats (50% coverage) 15 mins apart and then 4 heavier coats (100%) 30 mins apart, then let it sit overnight, with a proper cleaning and prep of the surface before application. they do make a clear coating and i believe it is called a glossifier but i could be wrong. either way i have never used it. the more the coated part is exposed to the elements the less it will last. for example if you did your grille it would not last as long if you did the outside of the tailgate. wheels are prone to not only the elements but road debris, dirt and brake dust. i would suspect they would look good for the shortest amount of time.

remember, you get what you pay for and plastidip is like $7 a can at home depot. if you want a permanent solution get your wheels powdercoated.

Do it and find out. It's cheap. It's reversible. What have you got to lose?

I plasti dipped my rims on my 2014 FX4. It was easy to put on but a PITA to take off. Be prepared to spend time peeling every last bit off if you don't like the results.

Maybe you didn't apply enough coats? The thicker it is, the easier to pull off.

You have to do at least 4 or 5 coats for it to peel off easily. If you want the quick and dirty, pick up a bottle of Turtle wax bug and tar remover. It will eat the dip off but it's messy and takes several attempts at spraying and wiping to keep melting the dip off. Use old microfiber towels as you will probably want to trash them afterwards.

I had 4 coats I believe. Good tips and for anyone looking to do this, it’s certainly worth taking these suggestions into account!

Prep is key. The wheels have to be super clean. I would also recommend doing a few coats of glossifier as well as it makes the plastidip look almost like powdercoat/paint. Be warned, though...if you have your tires changed there is a 99% chance that you will have to redo them.

I PlastiDipped my wheels last August, and they have lasted through a Canadian Winter. I wash them at work a few times each week with a power washer, and they still look as good as the day that I did them.
4 coats of Anthracite Grey and 2 coats of Glossifier.

Actually just plasti dipped my front and back bumpers along with all of the badges. The extra came off easily and got rid of the overspray with WD40. I personally did 7 coats on everything, 50% coverage on the first followed by 6 at 100% coverage. Went through about 2.5 cans of it, has really good coverage. Also, gives the truck a completely different look. If you don’t like it, just peel it off!
