So, in total dark, can you see better with the new camera with factory reverse lights?

This is OEM lights on my 14 in total dark

This is same camera, with auxilery backup lights... photo taken seconds apart

Yes, as long as you have some sort of light picked up by the camera, it will obsorb a better color/contrast than the OEM version, complete dark shot won't really do much since its not useful for my daily usage, I took these shots in each senario where I think it applies the most.

When you have time, can you post a reverse camera shot in a dark area, with only backup lights... Just looking to see if I could ditch the extra lights...thanks

In the 1st picture above is the oem camera and backup (reverse) lights
it is crap, so I installed rigid lights under the rear bumper (2nd picture)

I looked at that camera option but was told it won't be plug and play with the factory camera that it would need to be fully wired and spliced into the Nav unit in the dash.. thats why I went with the lights

so if camera is plug and play, and night vision is good, I would prefer to get rid of the lights and upgrade the camera

ahhh, I see what you meant. another thing might help is switch to LED reverse light bulb, I know mine can get pretty bright in dark.
