(Phone Heavy) All about Backup Cam (Installs, Comparisons)
Good day Gents,
Its been awhile since my last post, had a new baby, sold some of my cars, bought some more toys, life is full of excitement...
Since winter is here, it's about time to pay a little more attention to my FX4, the backup camera had always bugged me for its quality, coming from a German car fan, I appreciate those little details & quality the car manufactures put into their cars, so I started looking for a better quality backup cam.
If you remember my previous post, I purchased my front cam from Chris @ Camera Source (Forum Vendor), the quality and experience was great, so I thought I should try the rear cam since Chris claims the quality is better than the factory OEM cam.
After everything was installed, I must agree the new camera is indeed better looking on my display, if I was to give a number compare both cams, I would go with 5 on OEM, and 9 on Camera Source. Note I'm not affiliated with this vendor, I just prefer to purchase quality parts. and we all know Ford doesnt like to put many quality parts in our trucks nowadays.
Below are some installation & comparison photos, have fun and ask away if you got any questions.
Front Camera review thread in case you need it.

This is what Canadian weather do to your car, I dont off road
I know...she is very clean!
Close up shot of OEM camera
this is where you can open up your emblem, mine is plasti-dipped, perfect for product comparison.
Once opened, you will find the two bolts securing the base, I was lucky I didn't break any clips behind the emblem, the right side metal bracket was dropped into the base behind after I opened the emblem, I found it once I removed the base.
#7 socket for the job
to be continued since I can only post 10 pictures per post.

Make sure to unhook the clip behind the tailgate, this is where the camera wire at.
Far shot of the tailgate
Locate the camera connector behind your spare tire
unplug that bad boy
once unplugged the connector, start pulling away the wires from your trunk, the end connector will need some extra love when coming out of that "tiny hole"
Aftermarket vs OEM, everything seems OEM except the camera assembly
OEM Cam
Camera Source Cam

back to back comparison
OEM Lense close up shot
Aftermarket Lense close up shot
Time for install, make sure you line up the arrows when connecting your aftermarket cams, this is the same connector I experienced from my front camera install.
Now its just reverse everything back, dont forget to clip this little guy in to secure your wires, also remember to plug your connectors back underneath your truck.
Install completed, took me about 20 mins remove and install, 10 mins was probably wasted on pulling out the connectors from that "tiny hole", 5 mins was a smoke break...
Ready for some real photo shoots

Camera source Cam indoor shot
OEM Cam indoor shot
Camera source Cam Outdoor shot (with exterior landscaping light ON)
OEM Cam Outdoor shot (with exterior landscaping light ON)
Camera source Cam Outdoor shot (with exterior landscaping light OFF)
OEM Cam Outdoor shot (with exterior landscaping light OFF)
Picture should speak for itself as the OEM cam is for sure more blurry, it looks worse in person, note the truck was not moved during the entire install, this way I can compare as close as possible.
Both cameras seem to be the same wide angle, CS cam has more color/contrast compare to the OEM one, more clear for sure, you do lose the zoom in function once you switch to CS cam, but I had never used my zoom function ever.....

Hopefully this post will help those who is looking to upgrade or in the market to change their backup cams, I didn't bother to try out other cams since I know Camera Source had some solid products, plus I just dont have that much free time anymore.
Shoot me your questions if you have any install/removal problem.

I like the 2 tone paint job on the first picture but what's that white stuff on the ground outside?
ever since I saw your first thread about the front camera, I've been wanting to do it. that quality is way better than the OEM camera. congrats on the new addition to the family.
