The gears in your rear differental are either 3.55 or 3.73, when you add bigger tires you will have a harder time getting those wheels turning. Simply because they weigh more and they have a larger rotational mass.

When you regear you replace the stock gears with a higher gear ratio (4.56 4.88 etc.). This helps correct for the larger tires and gives you basically a stock ratio back again.

That probably really confused you. Did it?

No, I think I get the idea. So when you have a higher gear ratio, does that mean it shifts gears at different times?

Different question: Is it better to get the polyurethane or aluminum parts for the leveling kit, or does it really matter?
