Default Ford OEM Mud Flaps

I just tried to install Ford OEM Mud Flaps on my 2012 FX4... The front went on as instructed. I didn't remove the wheels; I had plently of room just by turning the tires to one side, then to the other. I have plastic wheel well lips and I did have to drill through them... but that's all; no drilling through metal. Now for the back... that's another story. The flaps came with 4 j-type clips and screws, 2 for each side, to replace the existing trim holding plugs. Somethings not right... I stripped all 4 screws trying to attach the flaps! Looks to me like the clips and screws don't match. The 5.5mm screws from the front fit just fine in the clips... but the clips came with 7mm screws. Anybody else run into this issue?

Yeah. They suck. One of mine stripped and I was using a 1/4 in drive ratchet. I ended up using a small stainless bolt and nut in its place. Also the rears are tougher to get level. You may need to use some washers to space them out. They look nice but I was disappointed with the install.

I just picked up these for my '12 FX4 this weekend, I'm guessing you had to take the rear tires off?

I took the rears off for more room to work and try to get them leveled. It didn't add much time to the job removing them.

Were you able to reuse the stock bolt that holds the bottom of the the rear wheel well to the support strut (per included instructions)? I could not... the pressed-on washer on the bolt was a bigger diameter than the recess on the mud flap. I had to replace it with a SS bolt and nut from the hdwr store.

Install the Husky Splash Guards. More coverage,no drilling, and better material. I used to install the OEM until I tried the Husky Splash Guards. I just installed them on my new 2013 King ranch.

WeatherTech are good as well. No drilling and they fit right!

No I forgot about that little detail too. The other fail of the design on these

The other posters are right about the aftermarket flaps being better. But after getting the front on with no issues, never thought the rears would be such a PIA!

I ordered OEM flaps last week on flea-bay. Put them on 2 days ago, with no problems. The one big bolt and washer was a little tough, but it got a bite on the threads, and went on no trouble. All the new bolts, clips seemed to work fine. Just lucky I guess.

I don't like the gap inside the wheel well, as the inner portion of the flap just kind of hangs in space. Today, I'm installing wheel liners I picked up at the dealer for $134.00

This will be fun.

I cut my own from a 2'x3' sheet of rubber... Had to screw into the metal though
