edge evolution drawbacks?
hey guys i tried to search and came up with nothing on this topic
basically, i am thinking about going for an edge evolution to get the power/ torque gains
but i dont want to run it if it will be hard on my tranny or decrease engine life. are these possible drawbacks of the edge evo, or any tuner?
i run an SCT on my stang but the car is babied, so i dont worry about it there, but for my dd truck, that i want to have for the long haul, i dont want to cause any premature damage or cause it to run badly in the long run
thanks
its an 08 screw 4x4 btw 5.4

i have and edge in my F-150 and an SCT in my ranger and i can honestly say i have not discovered any drawbacks what so ever to either. in fact my transmission shifts better and runs cooler in my ranger than it ever did without a tuner, same with the F-150. ive had the SCT in my ranger for about 3 years and the edge in my F-150 for about 6 months and i wouldnt be able to come up with any negatives to either tuner if i had too.
I have a Super Chips Flashpaq on my 2002 Lincoln Blackwood and found a Huge improvement in performance ... 3 mpg improvement AND the tranny changes are a lot more crips....infact I have just put it up for sale in the sales section due to my power tonneau cover taking a dump and the control moduel is $461;00, if you hear of someone wanting one its at the sales section...I had a Bully Dog on a Nissan Titan and it also was a big improvement...BEST bang for the buck out there thats for sure.
Since our trucks are driven by different people with different needs, ranging from little old Grandmothers driving to the store for groceries, to wild young guys driving off road races, the factory tune is a compromise. It's been set up to "work" in all these situations, but it is not "specialized".
The situations where guys say, "The programmer fried my tranny, driveline, etc" usually alter the aftermarket tune or just flat out abuse the machine. Even with the stock tune things can be pushed to the breaking point. The companies that sell programmers design them to stay within safe parameters. Altering their parameters too far or abusing anything will eventually lead to failure.
