Default Deezee tailgate assist pushes out tailgate cable...

So I installed my Deezee tailgate assist. Smooth install and it works great! The only issue is sometimes when I close the tailgate, the cable that holds it up gets pushed out by the Deezee strut and sticks out the opening when the tailgate is closed.

Has anyone encountered this and does anyone have a solution?

Weird. In the 4 years I had it installed in my 13 I never saw it do that once.

I have one on my '13 as well and have never had that happen. Did you mount the strut with the gas cylinder up or down? It needs to be up or it will push out the cable.

Could it have anything to do with how tight or loose the Torx bolt is? The one holding the cable and the strut mount at the top?
Here's how I installed it with the thicker side attached to the top. It doesn't do it all the time.

Just another reason that I am glad I went with the OEM one.

Could try loosening the torx volt and seeing how close you can push the bottom part of it(where the assist actually attached) forward--towards the cab. I just installed mine and it did look like it could be an issue.

This might be worth a shot! It looks like you have some corrosion build up on the cable ends and the Torx bolts. It could be something as simple as the cable ends not swiveling on the bolts then you close the gate. Maybe try disconnecting them and cleaning them up and putting some type of lube on them.

^^^^ Yup. I was gonna suggest what Mike from TN said. I just last week put the tailgate assist (DeeZee) on my '94 and the tailgate cable attachments were dry and dirty (like yours appear) I used a wire toothbrush to clean 'em and then put just a dab of grease on each side of both ends. Mine works fine after that.

That's a great observation! I'm gonna try that tomorrow, as well as not torquing that bolt down as tight. I really want this to work because it is already a product I don't want to be without.
