Crap, didn't even know that was remotely legal. Here in NJ if you had that you'd be in jail for 20 years................
If it was legal here, I'd probably be better off without a gun within easy access. I have anger issues I prefer a good ole beating hehe

1) Still working, though I do have some modifications I can recommend. About a year ago I did have an issue with the velcro that's stuck on the interior wall of the console (step 4 of OP) separating from the console wall on a really hot day. Cleaned it really good and used a new piece, long enough to reach from from floor-to-rim of the interior console (~10-12"? Gives it more surface area to adhere to), has been okay since, but may have the problem again in time. So basically the adhesive backing on the velcro strip is the biggest weak point in this system. Maybe there's a better brand of strip than what I used?? Would be curious if others have had this problem.
Solutions: It's easy to solve the holster-side problem as detailed in original post, but I can only imagine that if you live somewhere REALLY hot (phoenix?) or want to make this bomb-proof, you'll probably want to augment the adhesive on the back of the velcro strip for the interior wall side from the get-go. I'd probably use Loctite Stik'n Seal, rated for plastics and about -50 to 200+ F. This would take away from the 'reversible' nature, as that strip of velcro probably wouldn't come off the console wall without some ugliness, and would probably be best left in place. Obviously the velcro would still let you take the holster-side equipment out of the truck easily, and a black cloth strip in a black console will be nearly invisible. Anyway, I may end up making this change to mine this summer. I don't lease my truck and am pretty confident that if/when I sell it, I can pitch this as a feature.
I also did end up painting the wood block (paint it black!). Looks better.
2) I had a role of industrial velcro that was like 15' long, 3" wide. Just cut off 3" of it, giving you the 3x3 piece. I know you can find similar stuff on Amazon, I might have found mine at a big box store locally.
Hope that helps, and curious about your experiences with it.

Yeah, nothing's legal in NJ, right? Glad I live in a free state. Just need to disclose to the officer that it's present, first thing, and I don't take my hands off the wheel until I do this. Carrying is an enormous responsibility not to be taken lightly.

I got one of those magnets they sell for gun safes, under the desk etc. I screwed it into the side of the console and it holds the gun great, I'd say its been in there over a month and it hasn't moved.
As far as a trigger guard I'm a fan of appendix carrying so I just leave that tiny holster on it to cover the trigger.. When I draw the gun, the holster gets caught on the magnet and slides off as I pull it up.
Probably a terrible description, I'll work on trying to post pictures.
