Cold Air Intake; waste of money? Short Vid
#21
Just did some research and got part numbers. There is no such thing as a Cold Air Intake on trucks per se. The tube to grab fresh air from the fender is a piece that connects to a lip on the box. This piece costs $6 from ford.
So, basically, this piece is the only thing I am missing and is only appx 3" long .
To be honest, without the factory bumper, it's a hell of a lot more spacious allowing fresh air to enter.
So all I am needing is a CAI tube that eliminates the factory tube going to the throttle body with all of its extra reservoirs to keep noise down and which will allow straight air from the box to the butterfly.
I found air aid part number 400-999 which is just the tube for $160.
I do like your airbox though but those are $450 range...

Wow, I see what you mean. So you don't want to run a K&N and just using a factory paper filter? Why is that?
Also, what tube is that? That's really all I need at this point. The cutting of the bottom actually would allow more cool air to flow. What about water/rain? Does it splash up on your filter?

That's the Volant intake tube that came with the Volant system. Just left it on. No water or ice problems. I'm sure some may get in, but no problems thus far. I've been using K+N filters since I was a teenager. Honestly, Couldn't really tell if there was any real advantage. Had a K+N system on my '94 T'bird. Had the 4.6. That system just had the open cone filter under the hood and that was it. Sounded good but it let hot air in from under the hood. It's just easier to replace the paper filter when it needs it. Any quality filter is good.
