Is it okay to run a 6.75 inch (height) conical filter? Or does it need to be longer to draw in the correct amount of air? I'm thinking about the Spectre air filter.

What air box are you running and are you running the stock Maf sensor?

Airbox is just an open box, housing an 8 inch height/long conical filter at the moment, which has some holes in it. The MAF is stock and is inside of a stainless steel 3 1/2 inch diameter pipe.

That Stainless pipe is killing you on intake temps. Really does not matter what you do air filter wise. Need a poly tube set up. You have a "hot air intake" vs a cold air lol

So I bought the Spectre HPR8038, I know it is mainly for GM vehicles but it fits my CAI, is this fine to use on the 5.4?

(2013 4x4 XLT SCAB 5.0)
I installed a Banks ram air intake with the oiled filter this morning. Took less than an hour and installed nicely. I purchased it from Stage 3 on sale and it was delivered the next day! Thanks Stage 3! I also had a custom 87 tune emailed from mpt. My only other performance mods are a flowmaster super 44 muffler I welded in. The tune installed great and she fired up a purred like a kitten. I took it out for a shakedown run and wow, I now have the 5.0 I expected. The off idle throttle is responsive and with the flowmaster and ram air, roll-ons are throaty and authoritative. With the sale price on the Banks, the cost is right there with k&n and others. I've had a few k&n intakes and wanted something different this time. Glad I did. After seeing the quality components of the Banks, I'm surprised more people haven't tried them.
