I have aK&N series 57 on my 02 Screw 5.4 they claim 13+ hp increase in power and even ship it with a dyno sheet. Now companies make all kinds of claims but K&N has been around a long time and is a respected co so between that and word of mouth recommendations that's why it was my choice. Finding one on Craig's list brand new at a good price didn't hurt either, seems to help throttle response don't know about mpg yet as am just running my 1st tank through it since install but I love the way it sounds when you romp on it.

I installed an airaid CAI on my 2012 ecoboost and noticed that I had less mpg compared to my stock... I saw the Dyno sheet on airaid's website and do appreciate the +20hp but it did drop my mpg.

caveat: Since the CAI install I have maybe 200miles on it, will the mpg improve thru time or should I expect this mpg I'm getting moving forward?

Excuse my noobieshness

I think your just stepping on the gas a little more now...give it a couple tanks and then do the math...the truck needs to re-learn also..

Especially when you first add an exhaust & programmer with that CAI.

Here's a noob question:

I kept reading about concerns of "Running Lean" with the installation of the CAI. I have an elementary knowledge of what running leans is and how it affects the engines efficiency in burning fuel etc etc

My question is:

Isn't it why intakes have Mass Airflow Sensor to detect the amount of air coming in and if it's too much it'll throw an error code (just speculating about the throwing of codes) or something to prevent such airflow?

If its not the MAS, which is designated to capture excessive airflow that may cause the engine to run lean? What are they symptoms of running lean?

Thanks for any input on this.

Once again.... I'm new to this sort of things.
