Backup Camera Wiring
I HAVE INSTALLED A BACKUP CAMERA WHICH GETS ITS POWER FROM THE "ALLWAYS ON" CIGARETTE LIGHTER. ANY IDEAS ON AN EASY HOOKUP FOR POWER "ONLY WHEN IGNITION SWITCH IS ON"? (2000 F-150 V6 SUPERCAB)W/O POWER WINDOWS OR LOCKS. THERE IS AN EMPTY CONNECTOR UNDER THE DASH NEAR THE BRAKE PEDAL INSIDE AGAINST THE FIREWALL.
ANY IDEAS WHAT THIS IS FOR?
Welcome to the site!! That empty "connector" is for the dealership to plug up their equipment for the truck's computer and for an aftermarket tuner if you should decide to get one.
As far as the camera goes, you can hardwire it into the fuse box if you know how to that way when you turn the truck on, the camera will come on.
Or if you really know what you're doing you can hardwire it into the fuse box and wire it into the reverse system so the camera will only come one when you are in reverse.

I WOULD HAVE TO STAND ON MY HEAD TO CONNECT TO THE FUSE BOX. I'M TO OLD FOR THAT. I TIED THE TRANSMITTER FOR THE CAMERA INTO THE BACKUP WIREING AT THE LIGHT AND IT ONLY SENDS A SIGNAL WHEN IN REVERSE. GUESS I'LL CHECK WITH THE DEALER SHOP NEXT TIME I GO IN.
Hello yall my first time doing this ever and wanted to just see if this would post I hope yall don't mind me coming in on ya cause after all I do have a Mark Lt but what the heck its all the same. I will be back with questions and hopefully answers too
