Aux in Bed Gas Tank Recommendations?
2019 EcoBoost F150 on order with Large Fuel Tank, but still want more fuel. Looking for recommendations. Transfer Flow is top of the line (have one now in F350), but it is very heavy. Would like 30-40 gal. lighter weight tank.
Any suggestions? Thanks |

elr,
Thanks. I am having hard time finding what I want because I am so particular. I want high quality lightweight (less than 100 lbs if possible) 30-40 gal GAS combo including pump, nozzle, tank mounted gauge, all to fit below the top of rails. Transfer Flow 40 gal is the top of the line and is VERY nice, but it is heavier than what I hope to find. Ship weight is 200 lbs. Transfer Flow 40 Gal |
I have been using aux. tanks for many years. My first was a 50 gal. steel and my last was a Transfer Flow 45 gal. heavy aluminum (an excellent tank). Actually my first tank I want to forget--14 gal. poly from JC Whitney. Worthless, too small, was light though. After one short trip I took it out. I also sold my new GMC 1/2 ton that the trailer dealer owner told me would pull that 5th wheel (also the GMC salesman said the same thing). I ordered a Ford 3/4 ton standard cab long bed, 302 V8, 4 speed manual, 3.73 axle. Kept it for many years--loved the truck. That was the one I put the 50 gal tank in.
Transfer Flow shows a 32 gal. with an actual weight of 177 pounds. Let us know if you do find a lightweight one. |
I am told this one weighs 58 lbs empty of course. And you can see that accessories are offered for it, and that it can pump gas into the factory fill neck. So far this is my most desirable alternative. I think the Pic is "stock" and not of actual tank.

Looks good.

After much looking I have come up with another one besides the one above. This one, with filler top, will be below the rails and only takes up 12" or so of the bed, and is supposed to weigh less than 65 lbs.

What's all of the extra fuel for?

You're definitely adding some gasoline fire risk in the event of a bad accident.
