Lightbulb Alternator Fun

hey guys i was just wondering if an alternator could power a set of lights like fake neon or led lights to put in the grill so if you rev up the RPM's the lights would get brighter or darker. wouldnt that look cool? has anyone ever done this or attempted? anyway just somethin to think about thanks.

No offense, but that's stupidest idea I've ever heard. Why do you want to do that?

I'm sorry, I just had to say it. I'm not usually a dick. I don't even think that's possible anyways.

I haven't seen exterior neon lights since the 90's....

Damn that's rough dude. I think it's a badass idea, especially if the lights are like eyes. I dont know much about electronics but maybe you could rig it up to your gas pedal.

Using low volt-draw lights (LED's) wouldn't work unless you used a voltage regulator or in some way rigged it to go from very dim (between .25 and 1v) and full brightness (1-5V). They would just be really bright from the git go, and that's it.

If you hook a LED up to the battery direct, it will likely just pop. Try searching google for something of the sort, I'm pretty good with electrical and something like that escapes my knowledge. Either way, good luck man. IF you get something together be sure to post pix. Remember, just because one person doesn't like your idea doesn't mean it's stupid. It's your truck, do as you please, F anyone who doesn't like it.

Edit: What about using the sound box that used to come on old school neons? The thing that detects noise and gets brighter or dimmer depending on the level of noise? That would essentially work with the revs, right? Just use that to hook up to your lights.

I like the idea. I use to run a capacitor for a stereo in a previous car that would digitally show the change in voltage when subs would hit. Also there were lights attached that would fluctuate with voltage. Its got to be possible but im not sure how.
