Default af1 3.5 intake?

Is it true without any super chip liek the Xcal or the Edge this intake will overflow air and casue a check engine light to come up?

For that intake you MUST have a custom tune b/c it will cuase your motor to run lean, which will eventually F the motor up.

Tide hit the nail on the head. Just get the 3" tube if you don't want to mess with custom tunes.

Post AF 1 intake

If I was to place the AF1 intake in my 2007 F150 5.4L what would be a recommended tuner, any suggestions!

The new processor is unlike the older EEC-V, the MAF signal takes much faster sampling rates, which is why a proper tune is necessity. Would I recommend the Edge if you are using such an intake? No. The generic flash tuners really just bulk up the fuel/air curve and somewhat compensate for the increased airflow. A proper tune from a qualified SCT dealer is the only way to go.

Look at it this way, the Mustang guys who are running any of the five different CAI kits for their cars MUST get a tune, or the A/F curve will go terribly lean.

Thats the same thing with the 3.5" AF1 you MUST have a custom tune or it WILL run lean.

i know, i thought it would be a decent idea to give an indepth explanation as to why a tune is needed with a larger intake assy.

Xcal II with Troyer custom tunes are the best way to go IMO. There are other tuners out there that have gotten some good reviews by a few F150 owners on a different F150 board I frequent. I don't have any experience with them, but what I do have experience with is Troyer's custom tunes and they are OUTSTANDING!!!
