Default K&N 63-2581 Cold Air intake question

Hello
I own a 2013 Ford F150 Lariat with the 5.0 V8. The truck is still pretty much brand new. I have a found a brand new K&N Cold air intake system for the truck on craigslist for $150. I was just wondering what the thoughts are on this. Will it help? In which ways will it help (gas mileage, power, etc.) I just want to know if it is worth it to put it on the truck. I have not bought the air intake yet.
Thanks!!

Default feedback k&n cold air intake

I just installed a K&N cold air intake on my 2010 F150. i have found a significant increase in power on my eng. but i am trying to determine if my gas mi. is affected. it may just be re-calibrating, but the initial change i see on my mileage reader is a major drop in gas mi. from an average of 13.5 down to 6 something. I have not driven that much since i installed, but I am hoping that this is not what I am actually getting now. has anyone seen this initial drop in gas mileage when they first installed the cold air intake??

Hi and welcome.

And no, you didn't add any power.

You should read this (source = PHP).

http://www.f150online.com/forums/200...highlight=2009

In short - the OEM intake already outflows the stock engine's requirements. As Bill explains, there is No significant untapped potential here.

Folks are expecting gains due to all the BS marketing hype, hence the Placebo Effect. Others are in denial - having spent hundreds on a boondoggle.

Additionally, you are more that likely leaning it out - a small amount of power may be gained form that ( nothing major), but it's an uncontrolled condition as the MAF TF is now skewed.

You need the open loop A//F's measured, and custom tuning to correct the MAF TF if you are incurring this risk.

In general, on a 1997 - 2010 F150 NO intake gains you much at all - a couple/few HP is unnoticeable in a 6,000lb truck and it certainly is not worth the money ( or the dirty MAF you get from the oil migration and poor filtration).

And even on a non-EB 2011-up truck, most gains are in the tuning, not the intake. EB is a different animal though.

Sorry - but that is not news... common knowledge for years.

If you can return it for a refund do so. Save up for a custom flash programmer if you want tangible gains.

good luck

MGD

this is why i typically dislike forums ... too many "know it alls" ... whatever... have you driven my F150 before and after the intake was installed? no. well i have and i can tell you that there is more power when i just barely step on my pedal driven up my canyon road at 7000 ft above sea level... it makes a difference!

Default lol some people

i just installed my k and n CAI on my 2012 f150 fx4 5.0 and my butt dyno feels the difference. The truck now spins all the way through first gear with no problem and sounds amazing while doing it. Ive only gained around .5 mpg so that was not so impressive but for the price you bought it for it is defiantly worth the moony
