Winter in Michigan.
As the title says, I'm going to Michigan from North Carolina for Christmas. I have a 2022 F150 XLT FX4 3.5 with the original Pirelli Scorpions still on. Truck has 42,000 miles. They still have some life left. Will I be good for driving around near Traverse City and *******? I do alot of birding and plan to go to Inspiration Point in the Pigeon River Country State Forest. These are dirt roads and I'm not sure how they are maintained. I would probably just get new Michelin Defenders and not a dedicated snow tire since I wouldn't need them much after this trip. Thanks for any advice.
Wrong section or not, I'm guessing you need to make a decision in the day or so, so here is my two cents (take it for what it's worth...not much).
I made it to around 16xxx miles with my stock Pirelli's before I ditched them and that was much longer than I would've preferred. I live in WNY though, so our winter driving is quite different than what you deal with. They aren't a bad tire, but definitely not something I was a big fan of come winter. Quiet on road, lower rolling resistance than a lot of other tires out there, decent for stock. My wife and I are both in healthcare, so expected to report even during driving bans, etc... so that absolutely played into my decision to upgrade them.
That being said, 42k is pretty good for a stock tire these days and I don't think you would be being wasteful or upgrading too early, if that is part of your internal discussion. If the forecast is showing any significant chance of weather during your trip, I think it would be prudent to go ahead and get new tires installed before you leave. Again, just my take. If you decide to go with your current set-up, just driving smart and as the conditions allow for will more than likely get you there and back safely.

, tell me about it, I'm about 80 miles east of where he was going. Not really in the snow belt like him, but I'm all too familiar with the area he was going!
