Default Raptor Owners' Experience

I have a 2017 Supercrew Limited (3.5 EB with 10 speed auto) which I love but I will need a shorter truck for our new townhouse garage, hence my interest in the Raptor Supercab. I was wondering about owner experience on the Raptor ride and interior noise levels compared to regular F150 Supercrew trucks. My Limited is ultra quiet with a smooth ride. Also interested in comments on engine performance and road handling on cornering.

Thanks for your help.

3000+ miles on my supercab and I couldn’t be happier. Extremely quiet inside (even with the big tires) and the performance and handling is great. The suspension is really a thing of mastery in my opinion. I’ve never been in a truck like this that corners so flat. Ford engineers really hit the mark on that one. As far as being smaller I specifically went for the supercab vice supercrew due to the fact that I wanted to have no problem in crowded parking lots and I couldn’t be happier. I would say find a dealer that is willing to deal and get a long test drive

Ok so I can chime in here a bit as I went from a loaded up 2016 Platinum 3.5 eco to a 2018 Raptor 802A loaded up with everything.

Raptor ride.

I think it rides smoother as it should with that big suspension. For what it is (a big offroad truck) it handles excellent. But the Platinum was a more sporty ride in the turns as it should be. But again for what it is it's superb. I agree with Tmat. For what this truck is Ford nailed it in the handling department. It won't hang in the s-turns with your Limited but your Limited wouldn't stand a snowballs chance in hell running with this thing off road.

Interior noise.

Not sure what Trmat was driving before so I don't know what his baseline was but one the first things I noticed on the Raptor which I didn't like was the interior noise. There is more road noise than my Platty. Again big off road tires what do you expect. Now I am used to it. It doesn't bother me at all but after 20,000 miles in a Platinum and then get in this and get on the highway you notice.

One thing that may help is to turn off the fake engine noise. In your Limited and my Platty it pumped in fake V8 noise which I liked. In this I guess with the bigger exhaust it's too much to overcome so they are pumping in fake ricer noise. Turning that off may help.

Engine performance is good. I don't think it will be any faster than your Limited in a 0-60 scenerio. While it does make more power it weighs more and those are some big heavy wheels and tires it's turning. They pretty much suck up the difference in power over your Limited. It won't be any slower, but if it's faster it won't be by much.

Keep in mind these guys are at high altitude (as far as the times go). But in this the the Raptor is slower.

It's wider so parking is a bit more of a pain.

Overall I like it. If you are an offroad guy you simply cannot buy a better off the showroom floor offroad truck.

If your a street guy like me that will never take it offroad then it's sorta pointless. But I still like it

Now if I could just get Ford to put this HO motor in a Platinum and then fix the ugly grill I might have my next truck!

I find this interesting because the truck I had prior to this was a 2013 FX4 but between that and the raptor I was driving a BMW X5 and I will tell you the Raptor is super quiet compared to my X5. Talking on the phone is way better and unless you are driving around without the radio on or not talking to anyone I would say it's "normal" noise. But thats my opinion.

One of the major things that I was worried about was parking. Not sure what 'overpropped' is driving (supercab or supercrew) but I have to say parking this thing is easy. I could see how the supercrew could be a bit harder but in my opinion the shorter wheelbase more than makes up for the fact that the raptor is a little wider than a regular F150. And on that note a lot of people get all worked up about the 6-7" wider but the fact is that the mirrors are the same width so it is just more fender flare due to wider tires. Additionally the amount of cameras on this thing (if you get the 802A) make parking a breeze. Also on that note the side steps are set up to help protect your doors.. I usually take a look at the cars next to me when I park and most cars (maybe not a tall truck) would have their doors hit your sidesteps before your door and I promise the sidestep is going to win that battle.

Performance wise it is very drivable until you want to get on it, then drop it in sport mode and have a blast.

And again suspension is where is really shines. Whether I am driving to work over potholes or hooking up my 23' wakeboard boat the truck just handles everything I throw at it. I have owned a lot of trucks over the years and the SUPERCAB Raptor is hands down my favorite.

Good luck

Mine is the super crew.

On the noise I don't know what to say. As soon as I pulled out of the dealership and got on the highway I noticed it. Now I am used to it so it's normal. If I got back in a Platinum and hit the highway I would think it's quiet I'm sure. It's not bad by any means. But to compare to my Platinum (or his Limited) it's going to be more. Big tires = more noise.

On the parking. Turning radius etc is the same. It's just the truck is 6" or whatever wider at the wheels and fenders not the doors. So as far as opening the doors it's the same. But around here the parking spaces are tight. I find myself backing up and pulling up to center the truck in the parking spot more often because of the width. It just eats up the parking spaces width wise.

I have been dealing with the 360 camera for almost 3 years now. On a day to day basis it's worthless because the screen is to small. If Ford had a screen like a Tesla and popped that bad boy up there it would be incredible. But on that tiny little half screen it's not so hot. The camera works great. Hell it's phenomenal. It's the screen size that kills it.

Bottom line you will like the Raptor. There is nothing to really not like except the engine) sound. We are splitting hairs here with this comparison.

My 2011 Raptor was a SCAB. I like the slightly shorter wheelbase and overall length. Over time you will get some noise coming from the lack of a "B" pillar between the front and rear door. Nothing huge but still noticeable. You also lose 10 gallons of fuel capacity. My inbound 2018 Raptor is a SCREW this time. I don't need the cab space but do want the fuel capacity and traditional opening rear door. The overall length difference between the SCREW 7 SCAB is 12".
