OP here: So, this all very interesting stuff. I am leaning toward the ROUSH Raptor, which gives me some more towing rating (enough for a race car on a trailer). I dig the big V8, and it will look groovy in front of my Roush Mustang. I can buy a used one for $55k, which is close to the price of a new loaded FX4. Maybe I'll try some off-raod stuff.

My point was more that for the price gap between the average f150 and a raptor, you would put a legit mid travel or even long travel set up on your f150 with spindles, uca's, lca's, leaf pack, bumps etc.
Of course that depends on the trim package/price of the f150, but id rather build my own prerunner than pull a truck out of the box! That way i can put the cash where it counts (suspension) and not into leather seats and graphics packages!

If you put that same $ into the raptor suspension though... That would be a desert slaying machine

On a side note,
I still dont understand why ford didnt put resi's on the raptor from the factory?
Rears are external reservoir fronts are internal bypass. I'm sure it was a cost consideration as well as a 'real estate' one.

It's at minimum 10k any way you slice it - this MT/LT stuff isn't cheap.

Money obviously isn't a concern, BUT, you can also put proper leaf springs on any Raptor and it will tow better.

My .02 - buy a year end '13 and spend the cost difference on suspension upgrades. It will handle/ride/perform/tow better than the Roush for the same price point.

my dad daily drives his 2012 raptor, and he has raved for over a year, he is never tired of his truck. He goes about 50 miles a day (including both trips) he says the ride is as smooth or smoother than the Escalade EXT he came out of, and he likes that he can hop curbs again. We have only towed a set of jetskis so i can't say much for towing capabilities other than it was not bothered by a set of mid size honda skis. We love to go and offroad also and i have to say coming from my 09 lariat 4x4 to the tuned fox suspension is like nothing other, pretty soon going to swap out my stock suspension for the oem replacement series as well as a set of upper control arms. my dad also asks me why i don't get a raptor instead, my answer is i have seen far fewer decked out f150's than i have seen raptors, setting up my own stuff is appealing to me.

anyway do what you want! it sounds like you are going to have a sweet setup any way you go.

SVT designed the Raptor. Roush, Shelby and Hennessey offer upgrade packages.

A Raptor with a Roush package is called a Roush Raptor.

My 2012 is the best road trip vehicle that I have owned. We drive it on trips and daily. I also tow with it quite a bit and it handles loads well. I've had zero issues.
