Need advice. Thinking of a Used 2014 Raptor
Okay. I'm over my 2017 2.7eb that I took an equity line out pay for. I can feel the $$cash money just leaving my home every day that this thing depreciates. I'm lucky enough that I have the pink slip and I think I'm gonna sell it. IT'S TIME TO GO RAPTOR!
Question: (plan is to own a 2014 Raptor driveway queen and only take it out once in a while as I have a daily driver)
1) If it's not garaged, am I asking for it to get stolen? I live in California, east bay area
2) Is insurance significantly higher than a regular 4x4?

The Raptor will depreciate too, not nearly as bad as a run of the mill pick up but it isn't a good investment regardless.
That said, the 2014 is a nice truck. They will probably never build V8 Raptors again so it will have some long term intrinsic value. There are lots of cool modded trucks out there for similar to stock prices. Depends on what you are after but sometimes, $20k in suspension goodies for a $5k premium is a bargain. I daily drive mine, it is big and noisy, my neighbors probably hate it...
Is it going to get stolen? You know better than I brother, I wouldn't live in a place where that was ever a question.
Insurance, my 2010 is pretty reasonable. Less than the new 2015 Power Wagon I had and way less than the just previous 2008 Porsche Cayenne turbo. I found out why the Cayenne was so high when I hit a deer. $21k+ to repair, $6-8k for a similar amount of damage to an F150. Not insured like an exotic thankfully.

The loaded, 13/14 Raptors with around 40k miles are still in the mid $40k’s. They will most likely not drop lower in value.

Since I only use it for odd household chores and family trips, I figure a 6.2 2014 Raptor will hold its value better and give me that excitement when I drive it

Thanks for the advice you guys. One more question.
How big of a job is it to get the factory shocks rebuilt? What's the best way to handle when the shocks go out because I noticed that these are a lot more expensive than a regular truck.

it's about $500 to have all four rebuilt. check out the Raptor Forum for various shops that will do it. Some offer a 'you swap first' option with a core charge, that way you can put rebuilt shocks on the same day and send them your old one's once you get them off for no down time. Many of the rebuild shops also offer modifications, ie doing the perch mod while they have them, upgraded seals, changing the flutter stacks to improve performance over stock 'settings', etc... There are also custom coil springs available that make the factory 2.5s MUCH more capable of handling that heavy 6.2 in the rough stuff.

just did this last week. i used forged offroad to have my shocks rebuilt, great customer service with them. costed me 500 for the rebuild 60 for shipping and 170 for the spherical bearings i had them install. my truck was down for about a week due to shipping. they also offer an exchange program where they send you fresh rebuilt shocks and you just swap yours out and no down time. but there is a waiting list. about six to eight weeks. if you send your own in no wait for rebuild they get in and get out. this shop is in sacramento california so you might get them quicker than i did. could also upgrade to 3.0s if money isnt an issue. check em out, its a good shop
