Default Gen 2 raptor depreciation.

I have a 2017 ford raptor that I purchased in February. When I bought the truck it had 8000 miles on it. It was and is in very good condition. Black exterior. The msrp on the truck was $ 69,000.00 , it has every option you could get at the time. I paid $ 65,000.00 for it in February. That's the best I could do to avoid paying $ 5000.00 over msrp for a brand new one. And I searched a lot to find one within driving distance so I could drive it and see it first. I love the truck, but I am surprised at how much they are depreciating in the last 6 months, specifically gen. 2 raptors. If I had waited five to six months I could have saved almost $ 10,000.00.

right now I am seeing 2017 raptors with low miles for around $ 58,000.00 plus or minus, which means dealers probably paid somebody around $ 53,000.00 as a trade in or at a auction. Considering most people paid sticker or above in 2017, owners who traded in 2017 raptors are taking roughly a 20 percent hit or around $ 15,000.00 in one vehicle year. That really surprises me considering how well they were retaining their value thru 2017 , New and used.

i was just wondering if anybody else has noticed this and if this is such, platinum's are now holding their value a little better than a lightly used raptor. Just wondering if anybody who might have some close ties to ford dealers can explain the heavy depreciation in the last 6-8 months ?

You don't need ties to Ford to know why. The 1st Gen was limited production - not really on purpose, going in they didn't even think they were going to make back their R&D. Ford/SVT were caught off guard by how popular they were. The Gen2 isn't limited production, meaning they'll sell as many as are ordered and they are much better prepared for the demand than the 10-14 Gen.

What has happened is dealers marked them WAY up. Folks paid the markup. Now there are tons of them on lots, easy to get so the bottom fell out.

makes sense. Thank you. I’m glad I did not pay $ 5000.00 to $ 10,000.00 over msrp for mine, although I still paid to much. Thank you.

Most seem to be holding their value pretty well. There's a car salesman on FRF that sold a 2018 with 53k miles and been in 2 accidents for $57,500. > https://www.fordraptorforum.com/thre...-57-000.62969/

Where are you seeing them in the low 50s? I would’ve bought one... lol. I almost picked up a 17 with 20k for 60k. Thought that was an insane deal. 801a, every option.

I meant to say raptor owners who traded in their raptors, 2017, probably got $ 54,000.00 to $ 55,000.00 on trade. Autotrader has several 2017 raptors on sale for $ 56,000.00 to $ 60,000.00, which means the people who traded them in probably got around $ 51,000.00 to $ 55,000.00 trade allowance since most car dealers put $ 5000.00 on top of what they paid for a trade in.

extremely far off the margins you think are in used sales.

i don’t think so. I know for a fact I am not “ far off” the margins used. Some dealers use more and some less, but that is a very good average.

My point was more aimed at the inflated 'value' vs typical sub MSRP in a second hand market. I see them advertised all over the place (DC area) at MSRP used, but they sit for awhile. When they first dropped they wouldn't last 1 business day even at a 10k markup. Now they are at MSRP (new) and will sit for a week or more.
