Default Bed divider question

I happened to look again at my Monroney and saw a $299 dealer add-on bed divider. Well, I didn't get it. I called dealer and they said "we have it." So I'm getting my first oil change Saturday. Is the bed divider something that needs to be installed or does it just press against the walls of the bed? I have the full bed rug. Will that be in the way? Ty

Ok, I'll answer my own question as I got it yesterday. It's merely spring loaded. But it really only fits in 2 spots if you want the base/feet to touch the floor of the bed. Instructions show it locks into front or rear cleats but in rear I have the bed extender and if that is stowed it covers the cleats plates, and in front of bed toward cab my tonneau cover is in way. But it still works fine right in front of bed extender.

I use my bed extender sort of like a bed divider. It keeps my gas cans and other stuff from sliding to the front of the bed.

Friend of mine had a couple of these made up by a fabricator that works in the building next to him. I love it...looks better than the crappy pic I took of it. Lighting and reflections make it look wonky.

Hmm, if the factory bed extender takes up the rear boxlink cleats, that's not a good trade off for me. I'd rather have those lashing points available , especially since they lock with a key. I can just run a cable through it and lock my bicycle or whatever

The bed divider uses the boxlink cleats, but the bed extender doesn't.

While the bed divider can use the cleats, it doesn't need to. It is spring loaded and will sit either fore or aft of the wheel wells. You do not need to use the cleats.

Can someone explain to me the difference between ordering a truck with a bed extender vs purchasing one after the fact?

I have a Lariat on order, and at the time had the option to add the extender for $250. I declined then, but have now decided I want to add it. Called my sales rep up and he said “sure, cost on that is $495 installed.”

Are you kidding me? Is the extender from the factory somehow different, or is it the same and he’s really marking it up an egregious amount? The install can’t be much right...are they having to drill into the bed anywhere?

Highway robbery. You can probably order it from ford for 250. It doesn't get installed at all. It's spring loaded.

Sorry, I was talking about the extender, not the divider. I’m under the impression that they do have to drill holes in for the extender. Is that true? Regardless I can’t see how it’s that much work.

Now he did say the divider was $460 which included an hour for install. Haha, based on what you told me there is no install at all.
