Default 2001 4.6 Romeo Motor - Replacement Options

I have an 01 F150 4x4 with the 4.6 "W" Romeo motor. The truck has only 91k miles on it - I recently purchased it used. I'm experiencing low oil pressure at hot idle. The light and gage come on. I have verified this low oil pressure condition with a mechanical gage. I have 2 questions:

1) Is this the end of the road for this motor? I have read many posts on this site and others that say basically the only thing I can do is change the bearings and the oil pump. Bascially do a rebuild. Is that all I can do? Rebuilding this sucker is expensive. Most remans are 2300-2500 bucks.

2) If I buy a junkyard motor - can I use a motor from another year to give me some options? Can I use a 2002 or 2003 motor as long as it's a 4.6 W? I'm guessing that there may be some manifold or harness differences. I am willing to transfer items from the old motor over. Will I have the same problem with this new motor as it seems somewhat common?

Thanks for the input - much appreciated.

I can do the work - I wondered about interchangeability. How new can I go? If I find an 06/07 or even an 08 I can just bolt my 01 accessories, manifolds and electrical to it?

You need a 2v 4.6 up to 04 but and 4.6 2v should work for yah

Hello,Im new here and in the same boat as turbotaguy.I have just been given a 03 f150 xtr.Its in great shape, just with a cooked motor. Its has a 4.6L in it Im told(I have to pick it up).Was thinking of getting a new shortblock for it.Is there some issues with this engine?oil pressure wise? any info on this engine family is appreciated. Also can I put the 5.4 in its place?interchangeability?

Yes you can put the 5.4 in place of the 4.5 but the 4.6 is more reliable. And it will cost alot more yo put the 5.4 in because it will need new wireing harnesses and a new ECU engine control unite(Computer) which can run 700-$1000 easy. Any other questions just ask.
