Default Best Performance Muffler for 5.4L?

I got an 02' F150 5.4L stock exhaust system with a K&N Intake, i was wanting to upgrade to an aftermarket exhaust. I heard a cat-back system was the way to go for best performance. I want something quiet, a tiny bit louder than factory with a nice little howl or rumble but nothing you can really hear on the highway. Maybe a Flowmaster 50 Series? I was wanting to do 1 in and 2 out. Does anyone know exactly what im looking for. Maybe pipe size change? Quiet duals but a noticable performance gain? I plan on a dyno tune later on, what will be the best outcome? Also does anyone know the approx. max performance gains on 02' 5.4L?

I have a flow master 40 delta flow 3" in and dual 2 1/2 out, it is on the loud side and has a interior drone on the highway. It does sound very nice, you can go on you tube and hear different applications. Just remember that with performance up grades you will get interior noise which for me is annoying on long trips on the highway. On city driving it sounds good. Hope this helps

Good Luck!

I have a flowmaster 50 series for sale. It is a 2.5 in and two 2.5 out. I took it off my truck because it was way too quiet in my opinion. You will experience performance gains, and seeing that you do not want to much noise the 50 series sounds like it is the right fit for you. I swapped it out for a 40 series delta flow which is much louder. Let me know if you would be interesting in buying the 50 series.

How much are you selling it for? How much louder is it from factory if you put your ear up to them both?

I am selling it for $45 plus shipping. I have never gotten under there an put my ear up against it, but I can tell you that flowmaster rates their sound as mild on a scale from mild to aggressive. The 50 series definitely sounds better than stock without increasing cabin noise. I am pretty sure it is least aggressive sounding muffler flowmaster has to offer.

Hey, i got an 06 screw with the 5.4 I put a flowmaster super 44 on mine si/so with 2.5 inch piping to a magnaflow... yes magnaflow 3.4 inch tip out the right side. I mounted the muffler as close to the rear axle (its not underneith the cab at all were it could resonate into the cab) and i think its what you might be looking for. Around town u can hear a slight rumble, and on the freeway i can't even hear mine with music playing, even without music it still sounds stock.

I dont know about that, the super 44 definitely is one of the loudest mufflers flowmaster offers.

I had a Flowmaster 50 Series cat back system installed on my 03' 5.4L and it sounds pretty much perfect. Aggressive but not too over the top loud. It's just the right tone for what I was after. I was gonna go with the 40 Series but changed my mind. I'm glad I went with the 50 Series. I'm also throwing in a Cold Air Intake this week so that should make it sound even better.

DanYokim77 - How do you have the set up, true duals or just one muffler? Did you notice any performance gains? Ive already got the K&N set up and im not too far away from shorty headers, that should improve the sound type hopefully and not loudness.
