5.0 engine knock
#61
Mine does not knock when cold but once it gets good and warmed up it starts the noise on driver side of engine ,they said was isolated to # 7 or 8 , I sure hope if they replace the hole motor its with a brand new long block not a remaned one because I originall brought it in for this issue with 1500 miles on it shortly after purchasing it

My truck is a 2011 bought in 2012 ,So mine would be the batch that had these issues .
quote “The cylinder liners are very thin, and due to a modification Ford made to the cooling jacket on the right bank, the tops of the cylinders 3 and 4 are slightly out of round. This causes excessive heat and eventually damages the piston - and there's your knock. My build date is Nov. 2011”

FWIW: I bought a 2011 5.0 brand new Sept. 30, 2011. I noticed "the knock" when the engine was warm and I parked next to a solid wall (bank drive thru, fast food drive up window, etc.). I noticed that rolling up the window made it go away. All other aspects of the engine were just fine.
I traded the truck off in March of this year with 127,000 miles on it, some of them pretty hard running. It still ran great and used about a quart of oil every 8,000 miles on a 10,000 mile drain interval. I also owned a 2003 GMC Yukon 5.3, purchased brand new. It had GM piston slap on occasion. I sold it to a friend with 82,000 on it. They added another 50,000 miles and traded it in. Neither truck ever had the valve covers off.
If it's running OK and oil consumption is acceptable just keep running it.
