1988 F150 300cid inline six longbed
4 wheel drive with 3.55 gears
BFG All-Terrain T/A 31x10.5r15
(all driving with a cap with roof racks)

When I first got it it got about 10.5-12.5

With a tune-up and fixing all of my CEL codes and replacing my O2 sensor I got about 12.5/14

With a K&N air filter and MSD upgrade coil I got about 13.4/15.25 (this was recent so n=about 5 right now)

Planning on going to stock size tires, preferably with lighter alloy rims, bumping the timing, getting a lower temp thermostat, and maybe just temporarily (for the sake for the sake of comparison) losing that cap off the back. Hoping to get 18 on the highway in the end, but that may be wishful thinking given the four wheel drive.

http://www.csgnetwork.com/speedocalibcalc.html

i used this website and turns out my calc of 17 mpg is off because the speedo has not been recalibrated and I'm getting about 18 mpg mixed driving. I'm very happy with that......cool tool try it........

2002 4.2L V6
Stock all around except for a K&N air filter
Posted up 18.5 with a 50/50 Mix of city and highway, cruising at about 75mph and pretty good stop and go in the city. Relatively happy with it, but I'd like to push it into the low 20's more.

87 I6 best 19 hwy 13 city. It was stock. 02 4.2 when I got it, it was getting 16 hwy. I added a homemade CAI with cone filter, high flow cats, and removed the back two, and put a flowmaster on it. I was hitting 20-21 hwy and 18 city.

Default ethanol free gasoline

I have finished testing ethanol free gasoline vs 10% ethanol to determine if one is better than the other when it comes to gas mileage. Driving conditions, stop and go in city, were the same. Fillup was at the same pump. Gas mileage was PRECISELY the same: 12.1 mpg.

Well, that means I'll stick with the 10% stuff becasue it is 7 cents per gallon less than the ethanol free stuff. Disappointing, to say the least, especially since my owners manual stated that better mileage was a possibility with ethanol free gas.

I think I will install the Gotts Mod cold air intake to see if that makes a difference. I looked at the parts at the hardware store. Should be quick and easy. Almost a simple bolt on, and hundreds of dollars less than K&N.

I keep seeing ads for a programmer, G Force if memory serves me correctly, that sells for $69.00. The literature states 4-7 mpg improvement. Any of you guys believe that? (I expect you to say if I believe it you have a bridge in Brooklyn you'll sell me for $15.00).

i possibly may be gettin rid of my 4by4 5.4 due to a possible change in my job...if this happens i will def be going back to a 4.2....for some reason i almost like my old bare bones 07 xl vs my 04 fx4....the xl just took a beating so much better than the fx4! i would beat the hell outta that truck and it would just smack me back and ask for more! not to mention the awesome mpgs i got from the 4.2!
