heres a picture of the side by side comparison, super 8.8 vs standard 8.8 big difference and the axles themselves are beefier too

So the "Super 8.8" is what is standard in the 2015+ F150's now?

Just trying to understand which model/options we're comparing here. What years? Standard open or e-locker version?

yes if you have a 2015 and newer you have the super 8.8, others call it 8.8HD but it is called the super 8.8 by ford. Same diff as the mustang from 2015 n up just not independent. Im pretty sure the locker can be in either the super 8.8 or the 9.75. 2014 and below if it has an 8.8 differential it is the standard 31 spline they've used for a long time. I had to research this a **** ton when I put 4:09 gears in my truck. Even called ford racing tech support and they confirmed.

ring gear and pinion has no effect on if it's standard or locker, left is super 8.8, right is standard 8.8

Old thread, but I'll throw in my $..02 anyway. I had an auburn installed in my Explorer (8.8, 31 spline, not "super" 8.8) and it worked really well. Not a locker, of course, but it had a lot higher breakaway torque rating than the stock limited slip that Ford offered at the time. I was pleased with its behavior.
