Default 93 300 6 cyl. engine probs, need help !!!!

I hope someone can help me with this. I put the truck in drive, when I pull out the trans seems to want to stay in drive or shift into overdrive, It wont shift into the lower gears at all just lunges and jerks. I can pull it into low and it takes off good, then shift it to 2nd and it runs good, put it in drive and its fine until you hit a hill. then it tries to shift into overdrive or just keeps loosing power until it starts lunging and jerking again. I can pull it down into 2nd and it runs strong. Its not in the trans, Ive had that checked out. I can put it in drive pull out, punch it and nothing just lunges and jerks, no passing gear or low unless I shift it manually and it does fine. Its something electrical, I need help,,,

i had the very same problem once on a 94. turns out it was a shift solenoid inside the tranny. the problem was that the tranny was that electronic one and for what ever reason the solenoid couldnt "understand" what the computer was telling it. bought the part for $60 i think it was. long story short, it had to go to a tranny shop and was gonna cost me more than i liked the truck. bout 500 bucks more.

I was afraid of something like that. I have a 97 ranger that basically does the same thing. It wants to freewheel when it goes down hill and won't start pulling until its gets a strain on it. Mechanics want $500 in labor for a $50 part. Thanks for the info

no problem. if you have a scrap yard you might be able to pull a tranny for 200 that "might" work better. i just scrapped mine and bought a diffrent truck. good luck with it.

Putting the solenoid in yourself is really REALLY easy just FYI. Just get the haynes repair manual for automatic transmissions that pertains to your vehicle. dont junk it!
