Default 4.2 interchange help? 2003 vs 2006

I have an 03 F150 with the v6 4.2, which recently hydrolocked...
as seen here: https://www.f150forum.com/f6/4-2-hyd...-p0316-512684/
Damage not yet verified, but.....

I was offered a known running 2006 4.2 long block... The intake and all accessories from the 03 block would need installed on the 06 block.
However, official interchange does not say they swap.

I verified heads, cam, rods, crank, oil pan are the same, but the short block is considered different.

thoughts? Is this workable? Or why would this not work?

thanks!

Back in 2012 I installed a 2008 v6 in my 97 f150 didn’t change anything just made my own wire harness and installed
a cable operated 65 mm TB had to make a bracket for strain relief. I still have this truck as a daily driver with over 220,000 miles on the body this was my 3rd engine.

hmm... so little out there... official interchange says no go, but it seems all long block parts are the same except the block. Same bellhousing. Same exhaust manifolds, starter and all internals the same...Only thing I find externally different is the engine mounts, alternator and the total intake upward.

Any further info on what or why they are considered different?

thanks

Sounds like you hit the hot spots. Intake is definitely different since the ‘06 uses electronic throttle compared to a cable for the 2003.

This vid might have some more tips to offer:

When I put the 08 engine in I was not about to put the almost 10 year old stuff on this engine came looking brand new back in 2012. It runs that’s what counts. I’ll try to post pictures. I believe there are old post I posted years ago try to look them up on this forum. I had emachines make me an IAC val spacer I designed on there site they may still have the specifications from my design in there system. Then I cut a piece of oak as a bracket and put aluminum tape over it and had a piece of stainless steel bent for the cable strain relief. I cut open an old ecu de solder the plug and cut my harness and solder all my wires to the plugs tips and spread it with a spray type tape. This year I replaced the rear with one out of a 02 H-D truck that has rear disc with a 02 transmission removed the rear ABS and installed a disc to disc master cylinder. To the engine I put a fuel pressure regulator with a return line.
