I have a 2011 scab 2wd with the 3.7. I bought it in May of 2014 with 64000 miles on it. It just turned 152,000 miles. This truck runs a good as the day I bought it. I have changed the sparkplugs twice. Regular maintenance, no other repairs. Best truck I have ever owned.

The 3.7 is a great motor...much like the 3.5 NA. In general, Duratecs have proven to be very reliable with a few key exceptions. Cam torque actuated phasers are a problem with many...along with the placement of the water pump (chain driven on Cyclone motors). The problem is...once the water pump goes...so does the engine in many cases because the coolant that's supposed to weep out the front of the timing cover through a passage ends up in the engine oil instead if it's not caught soon enough. Both of those problems can significantly shorten the life span of these motors. That being said, 150,000 miles is the life expectancy the engineers designed for these motors. With margins of safety, life expectancy is going to be limited by the critical part with the lowest margin. A lot of it is going to be impacted by how well you maintain it too. I have a Mondeo V6 (duratec 30...motors that came out right before the Cyclone V6s) with over 300,000 miles on it and I fully intend on driving it until the engine or tranny goes. I think you can get that same performance from the 3.7 if you pay attention and maintain it well.

2014 3.7 liter duratec in F150 STX RWD
Bought mine new and now at 200K no major issues . Does not consume Mobil One 5W-30 with 5K oil changes . Did upgrade at 160K to 4.10 Ford Performance differential ( from 3.73 ) and has K&N cold air system . Likes premium fuel but gets 18.5 mpg around town and 22 on highway . The 4.10 helped offset the moderate 278 ft.pounds torque. Only engine issues were coolant tank line check valve added under Ford recall and at 190K #1 fuel injector died. Easy fix . External water pump started weeping at 150K so easy replacement. Starting to see a drop of oil between oil changes at interface of bell housing and rear of engine so thinking rear main seal will eventually need replacement . Lower ball joints about done so will do upper and lower as well as tie rod ends and sway bar bushings/drop links at 205K miles. Have put 900K miles on my three Ford trucks since 1989 and would say the 3.7 liter is as good as if not better reliability than the cast iron 4.2 Essex in my 2000 F150 ( still going well at 360k at neighbor's house now ) and the 2.9 Cologne in my 1989 Ranger . I'm aiming at 400K for this 2014 F150 and believe the long block will make it . The 6R80 tranny is solid and has been flawless . It is designed to handle 2X the torque the 3.7 liter output.and I do not tow more than 1000 pounds so think it will make it , too. My buddies Chevy V8 and Ram Hemi trucks from same time frame have had a litany of failures . The Ram ages in dog years . .
