2017 2.7L oil plug?

I attempted to change the oil today on my 2017 F150 (2.7L). I had read a lot of reports that the oil plug was going to be a yellow plug that accepted a 3/8 ratchet to loosen it (based on prior year models). This was not the case. On the 2017 plug there is no female input for a ratchet. There is a tab in the middle. I could not seem to loosen this with just my fingers. The stabilizer bar is very much in the way and I just couldn't get good leverage on it. Does anyone have any input or ideas on this? I didn't want to break it loose. I put the cover back on and decided to seek advice first before proceeding.

From what i remember... Mine was orange and I was able to twist it off with my fingers.

Did you have to do some combo of pushing the wings on the side and turning at the same time? With the bar there I just don't see an easy way to do that. It's in the way of everything I try to do.

Slide a socket wrench extension in it for some extra leverage.

My 2016 2.7 has the same thing. Mine was built in 10/16 in Kansas City.

I was also expecting there to be a square notch in the middle but found there to be as described.

I took oil a normal pair of adjustable Irwin Pliers and grabbed the blade as I also could not get with my fingers only. With the added leverage from the 12" plier it came loose with out any feeling I was going to inflict any harm.

Can anyone add a photo of the new oil plug?

I'm new here just registered so I'll try in a bit. I took a picture of it.

Thing is exactly like the old 2.7 plug but with the tab though the middle and no square recess.

It does come off with light pressure - and I used a set of small slip joint pliers on it as I didn't want to accidentally crank on it.

with a light pop (tabs coming off the ridges) it turned easy peasy. then came the flood

Just twist and pull at the same time. You will not break it. It's a helix design with a short twist.

I went to the dealership to get a spare, will cost around $3 bucks and you will most likely get the old design with the 3/8 notch (or at least I did) but so far after several oil changes on my 2.7 the plug and o ring are hanging in there. No leaks with mine, 4 oil changes and coming up on the 5th.
