Default 2015 2.7L Ecoboost Issue?

Hello F150 Forum,

I'm new here to the F150 family after selling my Ranger. I purchased a new 2015 F150 Supercrew 2.7L TT Ecoboost. Coming form a V6 3.0L in the Ranger, I don't think I am used to the new sound of the Ecoboost. In fact, part of me thinks something is wrong.

I rolled the windows down for the first time for a night drive and accelerated quite quick getting up to around 4000rpms. (Spare my attempt at trying to describe the noise ) It sounded like a rattle-snake rattler and felt awkwardly loud compared to other vehicles on the road.

Hopefully one of y'all can help me out and give me comfort. Really don't want to take it to Ford only to be humiliated.

Have a great evening.
JD

Sounds like detonation. Try it running higher octane.

OP My 2011 did the same thing. They replaced all the plugs and put a bandaid on the CAC. It helped but did not solve the problem. I finally was fed up at 77k and traded it in for a 2015 Tundra. I don't regret it one bit !!

ford did the same fix for me on my 2011 as well and AC vent actuaters, spark plug boots and wires at 20k miles. At 35k the timing chain started slapping the case when you start it and they can't seem to hear it. 6 people I know who also own the same truck have the same problem. And they don't HEAR it ....[ WOW ] it's just the cosumer that can hear it. I owned Chevy or GMC my whole life before this Junker and will own another Chevy soon!!

There is a new TSB for that. Ford is now replacing everything plus the cam phasers

y'all realize the OP is asking about the 2.7, which as far as I can tell, hasn't been plagued with the mostly-early-build EB issues that y'all talking about, right? Or am I missing something? should we all buy Tundras from now on?

OP, if you are unsure of how your truck should sound, maybe try to get a dealer tech to ride with you and tell you if it's normal or not. or a friend who has one, or more experience with turbos... it's hard to tell how a ratlle-snake engine sounds like (you do have 2 snails on your engine though!)
