if it does wind up being the tranny whats the best place to get a rebuild kit

Cart in front of the horse again. I believe your year & that trans has servos/ solenoids after the ECU, at, not in the transmission. Run for codes. Possible those are the controllers that were being referred to, not the ECU itself.

Yea, I would check for codes first. It would help determine if the computer is bad.
