Default Wrong spark plug?

Ok, I just got started changing my cyl 2 COP and I was going to change all of the spark plugs as well. Well I pulled out the new plug and its a little different, I've posted a pic.

My understanding is that it wont work, there are too many threads and it will thread in too far and the piston will hit it. Am I right or is there something I don't know?

As for the number, the old plug is a Motorcraft AWSF 32PM, and the new one is a Motorcraft AGSF 32PM.

I wouldn't use them. Parts store must have messed up or something.

Thats what I was thinking, I just wanted to make sure before I drive back to the store and waste more gas. Thanks for the reply.

Motorcraft added more threads to help keep the plugs from popping out. I ran across this same problem, when getting new plugs for my truck. I called Ford, and they said that was the correct part number. I have not had any problems with mine. Call the store before making the trip.

THe base of the plug is the same, if you look at the nut part of the plug that you put your socket on there is a bevelled edge that will seat the plug in the cylinder wall. That point is the same length as the old plug. The only difference is that the new plug has more threads as said before it helps prevent the plug from popping out. Dont worry about it, all is good.

Thanks for the info guys, if only I had caught it before I drove all over the place trying to find the right plug. I hit three different parts places that had no idea what I was talking about before going to Pep Boys where I found a guy who had encountered this with this with his Explorer, and he told me that they would work. After all that I ended up with the same Motorcraft plugs I started with.

Oh, well. Crap happens.
