Winter storage, battery disconnect or not?
 

Ok quick question for those who have stored their 10th gens for awhile (6 months).

I am covering it up for winter while I travel and want to know about battery disconnection, yea or nay. Right now it is connected and the truck is covered.

I'd like to leave it that way and charge the battery when I return and get it ready to drive. Any known issues, other than a dead battery, that I need to worry about?

Trickle charger if you can. If you can't take battery out and put in house. If you can't do that, disconnect.

x2 on Stabil. I would have filled up with non-ethanol if available.

I would put out some mice bait stations near the truck.

Thank you everyone for the votes, I want to just leave it as is and may not have time to make changes. I just got the truck this fall and it had troubles and I decided to store it till spring then start working on it. I may have to replace the battery and clean the fuel system, I forgot about seafoam or sta-bil, Do you think if i just add seafoam to fuel tank it will help. I don't plan on uncovering it to start it up.

I do two things when I put mine up for the winter. I remove the positive cable and remove the fuel pump relay in the power distribution box. That way it can't be easily started and driven away. Too many car thefts this past 2 years around here.

...and not just a trickle charger, a Battery Tender. "Trickle charger" simply refers to a low-current charger, and can be a "dumb" device. Even at 2A you can cook a battery. A Battery Tender will keep the battery at full charge, turning on and off as needed (or "floating").

So far, that's the dumbest thing I've heard today. You'll get what you deserve with that thinking, thanks for wasting everyone's time....may you gag and hydrolock on seafoam as well lol.

Btw- the way you have that tarped, the wind is going scratch the shiii out of your clear coat. I mean, it's not a stack of fire wood your trying to keep dry there.

All you have to do is disconnect the battery, and put it somewhere where it won't freeze. Top off the charge when you get home, charger with a timer as trickles just aren't reliable enough and can ruin the battery. So you will definitely have a dead battery when you get home, as there's a continuous draw leaving it connected. Serves you right.

Hard to believe you would post a thread, then blow-off the help...But that must of been the plan all along.... Have a shiny one. :thumbup:
