Windshield type

As far as I know, Ford didn't really start using that technology until about 2006-2007ish model years. They call it SoundScreen under the Carlite moniker. I also believe that it is mostly Lincoln's that receive the treatment. Ford windshields with the technology actually say SoundScreen on them also....
The aftermarket windshields usually say Acoustic right next to the manufacturers logo.
EDIT: I'll be damned... went out and looked at my 2011 Escape, and looky what it says.... SoundScreen AND Acoustic.

Thanks white89gt. I sort of figured that was the case. The reason I asked the question is that in the 20 years I owned my 1998 XLT F150 I had multiple objects hit the windshield and never had a crack
or bullseye ding.
I purchased a 2019 Ridgeline and in less than 5 months I've gotten a crack in the acoustic windshield that requires having it replaced.
Again, thanks for your reply.

Some brands are better than others
I learned the hard $$$$ way to seek out OEM and avoid Safelite at all costs on toyota.
I think i put 4 or 5 in toyota truck, and 3 in z71.
Never had to replace my F150. Weird huh?

Yes^^^ I always specify that I want a Carlite windshield. They just seem a lot tougher than other brands.
I used to deliver windshields, years ago. LOF and PPG were the top aftermarket brands back then. Very particular about their processes, and even the slightest mistake would get them sent to the "blemish" pile. I really prefer Carlite though, and it's usually covered by the insurance still (if you have windshield coverage).
