is it a metallic sounding clicking noise, or more of an airy sound?

Probably an exhaust leak. Check for carbon deposits around the manifolds and joints in the exhaust system.

mines done that for a while, but if you think about it while listening you can tell its a really air-like sound. when i bought the truck an exhaust manifold stud was broke, and ever since i replaced them, its done it. i figured maybe the manifold was slightly warped from having the broken stud so long?

Yes, I think Ford recommends replacing the manifolds or having them milled for flatness on trucks which have broken studs.

I saw that other thread and considering that axle shaft doesn't carry any vehicle weight, unless you see an impact mark on the tube somewhere, you probably fragged the shaft inside.
